Obviously Pony Canyon doesn't have the nicest studios, since it sounds like their early albums were recorded in a high school gym
That's a retarded thing to say. >:[ Pony canyon is a rather large japanese publishing company and subsidiary of the nippon broadcasting System. They've been responsible for countless, professional-sounding chart toppers, and they gave us the fishmans reissues <3
Oh! moon gold sounds like it was recorded in a gym, that must mean this huge japanese label has shit facilities.
OBVIOUSLY
Edit: also, get out your copy of moon gold and look were it says it was recorded. That studio just might not belong to pony canyon!!!! :O

Including Yngie Malmsteen. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing, well...

It is a good song, but not even the best on AMAP. Lately I've been thinking that Ninny is underrated, but maybe it's just that people haven't been talking about it lately.

Ninny got really old fast for me.

I didn't know Pony Canyon was a major label in Japan. I assumed it was an indie label judging by the low audio quality on some early music. Whoops.
Unfortunately, I don't own Moon Gold. It isn't still in print, is it? I don't have a clue how to order from Amazon Japan, either.
What is a "fishmans reissue"? Are you referring to the company that makes guitar tremelos and piezo bridges?

No, Ninny is really awesome. For some reason I think we're in the minority, though.

I always liked the lower recording quality on anything. Feels more like a real band that wasn't sculpted in the editing process.

I think you could probably find moon gold through the avenues which you would normally pursue any other japanese album. I didn't have too much trouble, and I'm a cretin.
The fishmans were an influencial pop band of the late 80's and 90's. Pony canyon reissued a lot of their early work, making it available and affordable to western fans. It saves me from having to deal with ridiculous prices and sketchy auctions. I can't really think of an act which deserves more praise. <3 The fishmans reissue series was a pretty slick move, although it would be nice to have the original orange, as the cover art is a lot cooler.
I'll second tatsu-kun's sentiment about the recording quality. Sometimes it works well for an album, and I think moon gold is a good example.

It might be because I haven't been here very long, but it isn't discussed anywhere else.

Wow, I'm surprised they would have it there. It looks like they've also got Kool Spice and Living Field. Too bad they don't have White Incarnation...

I don't like it much on the album, but it works well live.

I'll second Cherry being a great song. I didn't like it much at first, but it's grown on me. Very good, unique pick for a favorite song. I especially dig the live-ish-ness of it, similar to When You Were Mine. Maybe they recorded those songs live in the studio?
The recording quality of the early albums doesn't bother me much. I've gotten to where I think it's pretty cool, really. I really love PML and Little Busters' recording style- the instruments seem to mush together a bit on some songs, but it gives the whole album a really cool, unique sound. You can tell the difference in the single versions of some songs (One Life.)
