I've continued to like the album, even more than at first. The only track on the whole thing I don't like is probably Degeneration. I never thought Mighty Lovers was *bad*, but it's really grown on me.

Most of the solos on My Foot aren't all that inspired. Gazelle City's especially was lacking.

Are you serious? I really like that solo for some reason.

Maybe I don't understand the "classics" or complex time signatures...

I don't think they are lacking, just more compact. Like the solo in the third eye is practically non existant, but it does the job for that song. The job, of course, is rocking. 8)

Oh, and the "AH HUAH!" Sawao yelps at the end of the Rock' N' Roll Sinners solo makes it an A++++++++++!!!!!!!!

Is that a good thing or a bad thing? You can't hold it against him, it's just his style. (he likes to rock.)

I have a pretty good sense of humor about myself. Sometimes I like to say the cheesiest thing I can think of, just to see if anyone takes the bait. Just keep that in mind in the future. 8)

So here's my review....

1. My Foot= Great song, catchy as fuck from the beginning bass line. Love the interplay btwn the guitars and the driving melody of the chorus. A

2.Rock n Roll Sinners= Has great melody and backbeat. The chorus lyrics are kind of cheesy but if you ignore them and just listen to the guitar its great. Nice reflective echoey solo too. A-

3.Kuuchu Rejisuta= I love this track. Has great happy melody to it and a rocking solo. This could have easily been an outtake from Happy Biovac.
A+

4.Third Eye= Great riff, catchy song. Love the dueling solos. A

5.Mighty Lovers= Good melody, weak chorus. After repeated listening I noticed and like the rollicking guitar line being played underneath the chorus. B

6.Nonfiction= Ok song, wasn't that impressed. C

7.Degeneration= great simple melody. Love the sizzling solos and the "i will" harmonies really add to the song. B

8.March of The God= Great snare drum and call & response btwn guitar and drums that kick into a full euphoric melody.I find myself humming this during the day. B

9.My Girl= generic. The pillows have written songs like this before and much better i must add. Seems mediocre and thrown toegther carelessly. D/C-

10.Sayonara Unibasu= Sounds beautiful and empathetic. Love when that heavy chorus kicks in and that manic, happy solo. It gets extra points for trying something new (adding the cellos at the end) and having it work perfectly with it. This is a great innovative track and a highlight of the record. A+

11.Gazelle City= Good melody, nice solo but pales in comparison to Sayonara. I agree with the people who think Sayonara should have ended the record. B

I really enjoyed this record more than there other recent ones. Overall I'd give it an A/B+.

Anyway. I finally got around to listening to this.

My Foot- Very nice, very catching and up-beat, Still not sure about the distorted bass though... A-

Rock N' Roll Sinners- Meh...Mediocre at best. Kind of like the Predators, nothing new or fancy, just, meh. C

Kuuchu Rejisuta- Didn't like it at first, but it's really grown on me. However, that chord progression they use right before the first verse sounds overused, especially on this album, It sounds almost exactly the the chords from the chorus of Nonfiction. Overall, a very good song with a catchy beat. A

The Third Eye- Possibly one of the best tracks on the album. It's very upbeat, and I love the dual lead guitars, It adds a nice touch. I didn't like it much when I saw the PV, but that was probably because almost all of Manabe's track was buried under everything, so I couldn't hear it aside from the solos. But then, I heard the song in my headphones, and I could hear everything, his track fits perfectly. A+

Mighty Lovers- Kind of a strange song. I really like the intro though. The chorus is kinda...eh. It gets stuck in your head easily, but it's not neccesarily something you want stuck in your hed, because it's kind of an annoying song. B-

Nonfiction- I really like it, although it probably could've been better. C

Degeneration- Pretty boring and bland. The only song I skip regulary. C-

March of the God- Great insturmental. Sato is really stands out on this track. I really like it a lot. A

My Girl- It's alright. Nothing that makes it stand above the rest, but still a decent song, nonetheless. B-

So Long, Universe- I LOVE this one. We finally hear a somewhat emotional voice from Sawao, which we haven't heard in a long while. I really like the echo-y intro and the solo is amazing. The strings sent chills down my back when I first heard them. A+

Gazzelle City- Another very nice song, relatively clean Engrish. It's also very catchy, I found myself humming it a couple of times. A

Overall, a pretty solid album, defenitly a step above their new stuff, I really hope they stay with this newer sort of style, It sounds pretty cool and way better when compared with the bland melodies of Good Dreams.

Overall- A

The only parts of Sayonara Universe I liked are the intro and outro.

I think the verse chord progression is pretty cool.

Should've been on Penalty Life. Sounds like that. Too much like Noboranai Taiyou to be an original song for me
