 why is it... that Japanese bands are unafraid of major keys while American bands and others avoid them entirely?

Why is it that this thread generalizes two entire countries' music scenes?
Anyway, the current trend in [i]mainstream[/i] American rock is to be sad/emo/angry all the time. That's why. I think.

I'm at the point where I really don't want to hear some lily-white nerd sing a clever song about the battle of algiers or the string theory.
What happened to days when rock and roll was about cool stuff, not like the history channel?

no i'm not really generalizing. I did mean alot of mainstream American bands suck lately. There are other cool bands lately, i meant to say mainstream, but i didnt, so yeah.
