I listen to many Japanese rock artists. Just to name a few; スネオヘアー, レミオロメン, バンプオブチキン, ゲントウキ, フジファブリック, ザ・コレクターズ, みすちる, 奥田民生.
Typing in Japanese is fun.

anyway, some favorite japanese artists:
cornelius, go!go!7188, noodles, ging nang boyz, acidman, black bottom brass band(just recently fell in love with this band), fishmans, guitar vader, lily chou-chou, kahimi karie, takako minekawa, okuda tamio, orange pekoe, scoobie do, spangle call lilli line, and tsuyoshi kawakami & his moodmakers.
Anyway, that's my favorite artists on my computer right now.

many people consider j-rock to be just visual kei. and still others just consider it shorthand for rock that originates in japan.
i saw a guy from peelander-z running around at sxsw. he looked interesting. he was giving a crazed speech to a guy with a video camera.
some of my favorites: the titan go king's (they're fun), husking bee, noodles, suneohair (thanks to cajunbushi ), blankey jet city, bump of chicken, number girl.
i sort of liked tmge, what little i've heard of it.

I just recently started listening to more J-Rock groups. Namely, the Noodles, Straightener, GO!GO!7188, and I really like the cover the Pees did of Pari no Josei Mari on Synchronized Rockers, but that's all I've heard. I really need to listen to more.
