Re: What are you currently listening to?
Why not call it "innocent pleasure" then, than "guilty pleasure"? Does "guilty pleasure" also mean "liking something that people hate"?

That's why I was surprised to see the Beatles as one, if anything, they've always been on the forefront of most people's influences list. I know there are plenty of people who dislike them, but I never understood it.

Re: What are you currently listening to?
Yeah, calling something a guilty pleasure could mean that you're ashamed to enjoy it. In this case, the negative aspect of Gackt/Malice Mizer/etc is the American fanbase, which is largely comprised of obnoxious high school fangirls. I prefer to distance myself from that. That and, while I think Gackt is certainly a talented guy, I don't really think his stuff is especially artful. It's fluff. Nice fluff. But compared to a lot of the other stuff I listen to, it's pretty fluffy.

Re: What are you currently listening to?
^That's one of the main ideas when talking about guilty pleasures, distancing yourself from the typical fanbase...listening to one or two heavy metal bands as a guilty pleasure when you don't really like many others and don't want to be thought of as a metalhead...liking real sweet and catchy JPOP when you are 20 something year old guy...etc... Contrary to the name however, everyone has them and you shouldn't feel guilty about having guilty pleasures It's kind of like a 'get out of jail free card' imo... "What are you listening to, the soundtrack from pokemon? What are you, 5?" "It's a guilty pleasure " "Ah, alright man, whatever floats your boat" -fin-

The Breeders - Divine Hammer.
That awesome moment when you remember a band that you love that you haven't heard in years...

Holy crap. Divine Hammer was one of my favorite songs as a toddler. This has to be the first time I've heard it since I was three years old. I'm on the verge of tears right now. I just want to hug Kim Deal. Rockman, you just reconnected some weird neurons in my brain. I think I'm have an emotional breakdown?

Spoiler alert. "divine hammer" is a euphemism for "a good dicking." The carpenter goes bang. Bang-bang.

Ew. This is worse than the time someone ruined "Gigantic" for me. edit: I kind like Kim Deal's nonchalant attitude towards sex now that I think about it. Awesome song

Re: What are you currently listening to?
So my friend let me borrow her copy of Art School's new CD. I was pretty surprised to see that Steve Albini recorded it, and Kentaro Nakao of Number Girl fame played bass. It's pretty good.

Re: What are you currently listening to?
Sex was a common theme in rock music, sure. However, most musicians had a "Hell yea, we're rich and famous and fuckin' bitches left and right!" kind of attitude. Really immaturely over-blowing it. Kim on the other hand is more like "Yea I like big dicks and wanna have great sex. So what? Here's an upbeat song about it. Whatevz."
