I currently own a Fender Japan Mustang 1969 reissue that i bought 7 years ago. However, I only bought it mainly for looks and never got to play it before I bought it, at that time I knew nothing about guitars. I got use to it for awhile, but I definitely would've liked to try other guitars there before making my decision on purchasing that Mustang.

I'm planning on buying another guitar to replace the one I have right now. I'm planning to spend no more than $400. I've currently visited the guitar store today to try a couple of guitars. One was Epiphone SG, and the other was a Squier Jaguar (custom vintage, I think) with Seymour Duncan JBs. I haven't bought anything yet, because I'm still undecided.

Now when trying the guitars out, I'm unsure what kind of amps I should play them with. I'm also looking to upgrading my amp too, I own a shitty Marshall MG 15CD watt amp btw.

Oh yeah I seem to get bored after awhile of playing, so if necessary, can anyone recommend what I should play on the guitars? I've took lessons in the past, but I quit after I started developing panic attacks, so I mostly forgotten what I learned on guitar during those past years. I'm looking forward to going to lessons again, since I'm getting better.

As far as what to play, I couldn't tell you... When you go to try out a new guitar I would play it on an amp similar to yours first, then try out some tube amps in your price range if you're thinking of upgrading... I plan on upgrading (or restarting) ever since I sold my guitar and amp last year... Depending on how I like them I plan on getting a Fender Jazzmaster classic player and an Orange tiny terror with a 2x12 (either orange open back, or an avatar.)

This pretty much. However I'd put the 400 towards a good used amp. Mustangs are on the bright side however they're still solid guitars so not much reason to get another guitar unless you have specific needs it can't help you with at the moment. Pretty much with a good amp and pedal(s) you can easily shape the tone to your liking so since you already have a Mustang you'd have a pretty decent rig ready to go for gigs and recording.

First and foremost i'd ask what you don't like about the Mustang.

In the past, I've always found the Mustang to be too heavy to play in a standing position. I also couldn't play it in a sitting position for a long duration of time without getting chest aches.

Well, the '69 Mustang Reissue is a much better guitar than any Epiphone or Squier model. I don't recall them being particularly heavy in relation to other models last time I held a Mustang, either. It's just something you get used to. All of the Fender guitars i've played have been lighter than my other guitars, including the SG I had.

You already have a nice guitar, but it's entirely possible you would like something else better. As far as Amps go, I have a Fender Super Champ XD which is a great little hybrid tube amp that can be had for about 200-250$. Best amp you're going to find in that pricerange.
