Re: Number Girl
Are we talking about good performances or just spouting random songs?

Re: Number Girl
Lol already 36 pages of Number Girl. . .
Omoide In My Head.
Yup, have been listening to "OMOIDE IN MY HEAD Best & B Sides" and "Omoide In My Head Rare Tracks" recently. Both have quite some songs to offer. FIGHT FIGHT is sort of catchy haha. These two albums seem to have a more upbeat/light feeling than Num Ami Dabutz and Sappukei. (Do You Wanna Dance, lol. I didn't expect that. Is it a cover?). Haven't really listened to the School Girls yet. (or I did, but I didn't get into it).
Haven't really listened to the School Girls yet. (or I did, but I didn't get into it).
Here's my guide. School Girl Bye Bye is pretty easy to get into, seeing as it's the most poppy of their albums. SGBB has some big riffs, some cool melodies. Check out Iggy Pop Fan Club, Mizuiro Kakumei, Sentimental Kajou, and Mini Grammer (a personal favorite of mine). This album sort of stands out as Number Girl sounding least like the rest of their career. Still great though.
I can understand why you didn't get into School Girl Distortional Addict. It was the first album I heard and I wasn't really that impressed. It's really rough around the edges, has some pretty shitty production, and the lesser focus on pop melodies doesn't help. But you can definitely warm to it: Toumei Shoujo is brilliant (really the "Omoide in my Head" of this album), Hadashi no Kitsetsu is an energetic blast with a cool solo, Tenkousei is a pretty standard track that has a cool, sort of ominous/dark vibe to it. That's not to say that NG is only worth it for the more accessible tracks. Eight Beater is a really cool, bassy, sludgy track (though I need to listen to it in an environment where my ears don't feel over-bassed). TBH, Touch and Kurutte Sourou aren't my favorite tracks. But definitely check out Nichijou ni Ikiru Shoujo, it goes from upbeat, to chilled out, to super chilled, and then ramps up again. I dig it!

Re: Number Girl
a guide how to get into School Girls
Thanks GR, didn't expect that kind of a reaction. I'll surely use it in the near future.
Toumei Shoujo is brilliant
Yep, pretty cool. I heard the Tokyo Version on 'OMIMH-rare tracks' and also the one on 'OMIMH- best & B sides'.

Re: Number Girl
Ashinow, have you checked out Zazen Boys yet?
Hmm, yeah I watched about 3 to 4 videos on youtube. Weekend, Asobi and I Don't Wanna Be With You on the top of my head. These are also the videos at the top when you type 'zazen boys' in youtube. It's been a while ago that I checked them out, haven't really listened to them since then. I don't have a strong opinion on them. My thoughts at the time were something like this: hmm, this sounds okay, but it's kinda minimalistic. Not very special. This obviously isn't Number Girl. And then I continued my exploration of NG's discography. What are your thoughts about them?
