They speak Japanese.
I just have no idea how the series WORKS in English. They're Japanese kids, they speak Japanese. And they want to hit in America, where people speak English.
So...is it now, They're Japanese kids who speak English naturally...and they want to hit in America where people speak Japanese, and that's really cool to them?
How the fuck does that make any sense? Can someone hold my hand through this?

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
Ironic coming from someone who should be watching stuff in Japanese for language practice - but I don't mind watching things dubbed when I feel like some anime every now and again. I actually quite like most of the voices from the Welcome to the NHK dub - there were only two or three (rather important) ones I thought worked better in Japanese.

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
On a side note, I can't WAIT (sarcasm there) to see how the live action version of Akira turns out. I can only assume it's going to be given a new name, as it's being set in NY and the likelihood of any Asian actors being cast is low. Although it would be nice if the story was retold as-is, that's not happening and that's okay - there's no reason a good story can't be transplanted into another cultural context. I'll just hope that the story is given the proper treatment.

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
Watching Black Lagoon currently. Pretty damn good. It's hard finding anime that isn't cheesy as fuck these days.

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
Yeah I haven't been watching anything but based on internet hearsay, it seems like a lot of people are upset about the state of anime these days.
A lot of my students seem interested in something called Sengoku Basara, I think. Not really sure what it's all about.

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
Kanedaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Yeah, Live-action Akira and Cowboy Bebop might end up making me depressed. I really want them to be good though. Sengoku Basara...I think that's the one with all the legendary samurai fighting and then trying to stop Oda. It was a little silly and cheesy to my recollection, with the samurai flying all around and doing crazy moves. I tried to do a couple of episodes. And Capcom had something to do with it. An adaptation or something? I've been watching Shigurui: Death Frenzy, which is just such a cool name. Off-topic, but related-ish did anyone else know Keanu Reeves is starring in a remake of 47 Ronin?

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
All right, people are going to be skeptical, but I saw this recently and thought it was surprisingly really good. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puella_Magi_Madoka_MagicaIt's a lot darker and more engrossing than you would think.

Assuming Latin.
