You like songs that are terrible, we get it.

@Aplaca:
"Bat-shit crazy useless song that blemishes an otherwise golden album" is pretty subjective, dude!

And I'm not reading deeply into anything at all: the pillows' music is (or, at least, was) marked by tons of stylistic experiments. Yes, it's generally within the confines of rock music, but even just on Bivouac there is a pretty gigantic range from songs like Back Seat Dog to Beautiful Morning With You. Nearly every song, even on just that one album by itself, has a totally different atmosphere and pulls from different influences.

Anyway, I like Bad Dreams. Never understood the fandom's massive hateboner for it, or even what makes it particularly different from the rest of the material on GOOD DREAMS.

You started with the strong choice of words, not me. So don't just going around bashing whatever you don't like. It's rude and solicits rude replies.

Seriously, come on, people. Bad Dreams is not "bat-shit-crazy" by any means. It's a very rock-oriented 12-bar, for Christ's sake, not Sawao's tribute to Frank Zappa or something.

Really, the only difference I can think of between Bad Dreams and, say, Super Trampoline School Kid is that Bad Dreams is based on a blues progression. At the risk of making false assumptions, I think that certain people here are pretty close-minded towards blues riffing, or anything that doesn't have a pop melody. Too "dirty" sounding, perhaps?

I dunno, I think the blues is a really cool form of music, and I thought it was awesome that the pillows tried their hand at it. But oh well, I guess everyone has their own tastes and all. :/

What? That's the silliest thing i've ever heard.

Is there any objective, universalized or universalizeable standard which you are using, proving Bad Dreams to be a terrible song? Didn't think so.

lol hateboner

Personally, I think it's about equal to STSK and Tokyo Zombie, they are all relatively about the same enjoyment. I don't think Swinger's Night Club is anything special, but I don't slam on it. Not to mention that the population seems to think Paper Triangle and Thunder Whales Picnic are emphatically the best two with March of the God pretty close behind. It just seems pointless to talk about which of the other instrumentals is the worst. Getting upset over it is even worse.

I'd laugh my ass off if a live of Bad Dreams ever showed up and the entire thread was like "wow it sounds awesome live! I like it now"

And then a vat of Nickelodeon Gak drops on your head. ^_^

Been Listening to this album again. Nobody Knows What Blooms, Movement, Brilliant Crown, are the ones I keep on repeating. Sad Fad Love and Limp Tommorrow also get high marks.

Nobody Knows What Blooms, is just great makes me all. :groovin: I love the little things they threw in like the sax. It's the high point of the album imo.

After not listening to the pillows for a long time this album has grown on me. I'm really feeling it right now.

The thing that bothers me about the band's recent stuff is how individual songs get some parts right, but the rest is bland. For example, I love how the verse in Movement sounds; it reminds me of the best part of Good Dreams and My Foot. But then there's a forgettable chorus and solo. Still, I think this album is just a bit better than their last few releases.

Totally. Their genius shines through at times, but then disappears suddenly. It's frustrating.

I think Bad Dreams is fun.

Yes, it has silly sound effects and is repetitive. Still fun.

The pillows have no bad songs, just some fun songs and some pretty good songs.

... really? I mean, you can't think of even one pillows song you dislike?
