Re: Weezer - Hurley
No clue who that guy is, but his face makes a funny album cover. Almost as funny as Weezer still putting out albums.

Re: Weezer - Hurley
Hurley was probably the most loveable character from Lost.

Re: Weezer - Hurley
As someone firmly entrenched in the Weezer online fanbase, we found out about this a few weeks ago. Wasn't confirmed, but once we saw that album cover was legit... lots of mixed feelings. I think it's kind a funny, but also pathetic in a way, because it seems that the Hurley clothing store is responsible for the recording of this album. How do we know this? Well, first there was a Weezer t-shirt contest sponsored by Hurley. Then Weezer just performed at the Hurley sponsored U.S. Open of Surfing in SoCal this past weekend. And then there's the reports coming in of relatives of people working at Hurley that say Hurley and Pac-Sun funded the album. So the theory is so it doesn't seem like Weezer sold out, they just decided to say the album was named after the "Lost" character. Despite all this, I kinda like the lead single, "Memories". It's on their Facebook now. I'm just scared of what the rest of the album sounds like, not getting my hopes up. It's funny though. The band's drummer started posting on the Weezer fan forum I'm on, and he pretty much said he didn't like the direction Weezer was going in, beginning with Raditude last year. He said being in Weezer is fun and awkward at the same time. I guess he loves touring constantly, but not the (mostly) shit music Rivers has been putting out. I really hope we get a couple of awesome tracks on the new album, but I'm looking way more forward to the deluxe edition of Pinkerton that's supposed to be coming out in October

Re: Weezer - Hurley
Raditude was one of the worst albums a band I liked has ever put out. I didn't like Make Believe or Red Album, but they were on a different level than Raditude. Raditude was just fucking terrible. Really. I read on the wiki about it that the guitarist didn't like the music they were making but Rivers just said "Oh, this is just one album of many more we will make in the future, so, just sit through it." If the drummer feels that way, too, then I wonder if anyone other than Rivers is enjoying the music they're putting out. I really want to know why the hell Weezer is collaborating with Lil' Wayne.

There's a few really great tracks on there (Trippin Down the Freeway. Run Over By a Truck, Pretties Girl), but the rest is just so unpalatable. I read that interview too though. I mean seriously, how the hell can he be OK with that? "Oh so we're only going to make embarrassments of ourselves and look like lame has-beens for one album, Rivers? All right, then sign me up for that!" So you got 1/2 the band not exactly thrilled about the work being put out? What does that tell you? Rivers needs to get his head out of his ass and go back to writing great melodies and not overproducing things. Which reminds me... here's another message Pat Wilson, the drummer, posted up on the fan boards yesterday:
I'll tell you what I like about Pinkerton. It sounds rad and everyone is going off. There's minimal overdubbing, it sounds like 4 people playing their instruments with personality. I believe music fans like that sound and casual music fans are confused somewhat by it. If all of our other records went in that direction, I doubt you'd hear so much flak about them and they would have been looked at way differently. That's why I like the live show so much, cuz I like to go off script in that spirit.
So friggin slap Rivers in the face and tell him to get back in the game for Christ's sake! And Julio, listen to this and tell me it doesn't move you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iij1FIx-vDI

Re: Weezer - Hurley
I saw them live in Montreal a couple weeks ago, and they completely blew everyone else out of the water. It was one of the most ridiculously perfect live shows I've ever seen. And last Halloween I saw them in NYC. They played Tired of Sex and people lost their shit.

Re: Weezer - Hurley
@Son Goshin: Interesting, I only heard about this through a Lost site, and thought it was a little odd that they were like, oh well, we've hardly watched much of Lost... yet they're sticking this character on the cover of an album.

Re: Weezer - Hurley
Just like a lot of bands, I got into them later, after I was done depriving myself of good music for the greater part of high school. However, I'm not as hard on some of the later albums as some others are-Make Believe had some good songs on it, I really like Perfect Situation. Pinkerton's the best though for me, at least right now, because I haven't listened to their whole catalog.
Missed a good chance to see them live last year, from what it sounds like I need to get on that.

Re: Weezer - Hurley
A. Fish, for me, Make Believe had some okay songs, like you said. Red album had some okay songs like you said. Hell, I really like Maladroit and Green album. For me, again, though, lol, Raditude had like one or two good songs and the rest of the album made me want to rip my balls off and send them to Rivers Cuomo.

Well, They have the album up on their myspace. I just gave it a preliminary listen last night. I'd say it IS a step in the right direction, but it sounds pretty mediocre. Miles ahead of Raditude, though.
