Post Yoshiaki Manabe and Graham Coxon similarities
In order for anyone to really get what im talking about they'd have to have been fans of "blur". I think it goes without saying that people here are very familiar with the way the lead guitarist, Manabe, plays. He has little tricks and habits that you learn after hearing so many solos and songs. So!

Does anyone feel like Graham Coxon from "Blur" and Yoshiaki Manabe from "The Pillows" have really similar guitar styles?

I'll watch this thread and see if anyone knows what i mean. if not ill throw some youtube links to songs that have alike lead guitar stuff.

Eh, I suppose but I feel its mostly coincidental. Manabe's playing style to me feels a bit more "embellished", at least with the older stuff; his playing seems much more active/busier. Both are great and very unsung/underrated guitar players though, no doubts there.

I don't think Manabe can really be called 'underrated' when he's playing international tours. Unless you're referring to mass public acclaim.

Well, I don't think it's a stretch to say that his guitar parts have simplified since thier early years. It's mostly a result of thier gradual change in genre over the years. He had very intricate leads in songs like The Killing Field, Daydream Wonder, Sunday, so forth.

cool im happy people are replying. What i meant was is that i think both of them do the same kind of like..tech? Yanno tech. They're both following the same pattern. I agree with how he played back on the earlier albums is VERY different from Coxon. But, in terms of please mister lostman on, i think him and coxon are on the same page. Im going to find some blur songs and some pillows songs to compare. Stay tuned.

Aside from being terrible at explaining what you're even talking about, you could have at least provided audio or video links before you submitted this topic...

Eee yikes sorry. Didn't think it was that hard to follow. Sorry if it was.

I meant that where they take the sound when they play is similar. Kind of the same pattern. I'm not saying in anyway that one is ripping off the other. Just something I always felt since I'm fans of both guitarists. Hope I'm not in over my head now =X

So! Now that i have some time...

These solo's have the same kind of feel for me

Blur Star Shaped: 1:55 to 2:12 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3qOcKsmZ4Y

The Pillows Lady Bird Girl : 2:30 to 2:48 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBdH-UH2MiI

It's kinda late here. I'll post more soon.

Hope the youtube isn't breaking any faux paux i dont know about. First time really posting any ideas here.
