Post Re: Avatar
I saw Avatar, and I thought it was a very smart film. The story wasn't incredibly creative, but the execution was very engaging and nothing in the movie (that again is hardly creative or original) seemed like a copy-job. It's a very interesting movie that didn't bore me in the slightest. It didn't tell lame jokes like Transformers 2 did, and it didn't try to cover up bad writing with CG like the latest Star Wars movies had done.

Avatar sacrificed nothing; it was well written, well paced, interesting, and set a new visual bar for movies. It manages to perfect old concepts, and still blow your mind. I highly recommend it.

The special effects were stunning, they took the movie to a whole other level. But the story was way too predictable. I liked it, not loved it.

I agree with what Alucard said. I would add that, while I don't disagree with the anti-military, anti-imperialism message, it was done in such an exaggerated fashion that it was like being beaten over the head with it. Overall, though, despite being a mash-up of Fern Gully, Pocahontas, the Last Samurai, and Starship Troopers, it was an engaging and highly enjoyable film.

Not as good as Coraline, which I watched last night, though.

Plot was pretty unoriginal but at least not completely terribly executed. I get the feeling the goal was to keep the plot pretty mainstream.
