Re: plenty
well same here, i'm not saying that all songs are either immediately appealing or not hence
Liking a song only after hearing it a few times happens often.
Maybe I was unclear in exactly what I meant, and I misunderstood what Camio said. If I did I apologize for being mean to Camio. I just didn't think it was all that difficult to tell whether this band is your taste or not. Plenty is NOT Zazen Boys or say, Quruli, or even the least bit experimental. There are a ton of bands in Japan that have a similar sound, so in that case, if you've heard a band like say People in the Box, and don't like them, chances are you won't like Plenty either.

Never do that. You can be sure that somewhere, sometime, he said something to deserve it.
Also, music doesn't have to be experimental or novel or even complex to be an acquired taste. Furthermore, something can be an acquired taste to one person, but have immediate appeal to another, and vice versa.

Re: plenty
Number Girl, Zazen Boys, definitely an acquired taste. Not to sound pretentious, it's just that some bands are really different enough that your brain takes a while to pick out what exactly is interesting/enjoyable about what you're hearing. Unfortunately, it's these bands which are hardest to introduce people to. If they don't really have the mental framework of what Mukai is doing, or what the "point" is, it can be difficult to grasp.
No, I agree, this might be why I can't get into Ging Nang Boyz. I had heard of them before, but only because a good friend of mine had showed them to me as a joke. So imagine my surprise when I come here to check the forums(this was when I was still a lurker)and saw people talking about them like they were something amazing. To this day, I don't get how some people can still be so hung up on them.

Get past that and hear the songs that will FORCE you to love them.

Re: plenty
I agree with what GR was saying. But in Number Girl's case, I don't think there's as much there to appreciate until NUM HEAVY-METALLIC. That's just me, though. And Ging Nang Boyz are another great example of an acquired taste. I didn't think much of them on a first listen, but something drew me back again and again, and then I started to hear what was really going on. Zazen is hit and miss, and there are still occasional "wtf is this shit" moments that don't fade with appreciation, but I agree with the gist.
There's not a direct parallel, but it reminds me a bit of the way in which some particularly complex literature grows in richness upon multiple readings. /off-topic]
To the point of the thread, plenty didn't really do much for me.

before the girl started singing and was all out of focus I thought it was sawao. Sawao needs to get a new hairstyle or something.
edit: That's a guy?!
ugh, shut the fuck up. Mare already mentioned he was a guy, don't be a moron.

lol, I wrote the first part when I was listening to the song and then started to read the thread and found out it was a guy.
It's funnier to write a delayed reaction making fun of the fact that he is built and sounds like a girl.
grow a sense of humor. it's not a tumor.

Re: plenty
....wow, sheer was totally right. You're a moron. I guess I had forgotten since it's been a while since i've read any of your posts. First of all, if you would have read the thread, you'll notice that it had already been commented on many times, and being obnoxious about it again would probably cross into 'beating the dead horse' territory.
lol, I wrote the first part when I was listening to the song and then started to read the thread and found out it was a guy.
i kinda doubt that. i think you just edited it to make it look that way.
It's funnier to write a delayed reaction making fun of the fact that he is built and sounds like a girl.
no, it's not. It had already been talked about. It's not funny anymore.
grow a sense of humor. it's not a tumor.
again, you're not funny. remember when I said shut the fuck up earlier in the thread? I really meant that. Shut the fuck up.
