I just listened to Ooparts for the first time and was about to say you guys were definitely overreacting...
Then I started up Turn Back, which I got in the same order, for the first time, and... well, damn. Carry on.
(Ooparts isn't THAT bad and I might even be able to like it a bit more than Pied Piper, but... well, that's not really saying much. At least there's enough decent stuff on there that I can keep up the hope that the next album will be the one to turn things around and impress the hell out of all of us...)

The album itself is pretty mediocre, as mentioned, but to answer the question that was posed earlier-- what do I want from the pillows?

More amazing songs like Hybrid Rainbow, Last Dinosaur, Carnival, Strange Chameleon, and Ride on Shooting Stars. I am a major fan of their mid to late 90's and early 2000's work. I'm in the minority in actually liking some songs from the album My Foot. I didn't really dig KOOL SPICE and other earlier CD's. The vocals on them seem to be... muted? Distorted? The old Hailey's Comet (Bokura no Haree Suisei) and the rereleased version is an example of this.

Oh, and please, Sawao, steer clear from straight up pop tunes (Ladybird Girl). Sure, it's a great way to get girls to like the pillows, but it's not what the pillows are about. Tokyo Bambi was a "novelty", and enjoyable for a while, but Hybrid Rainbow is currently my favorite pillows song.

Oddly enough, I had a dream a few days ago that I was in a "pillows conference" where a publicist from the Avex Group tried to get a bunch of American pillows fans to start a sort of "viral campaign" and have a brainstorming session in which we suggested ways to bring the pillows to the states. And sure enough, all the people in this conference were yelling incoherently 9 times out of 10.

You know what OOPARTS kind of reminds me of? Smile. They're both quirky albums with some odd songs on them. I know that applies to most of their albums, but this one bears the most resemblance to OOPARTS that I see.

Question: what does ladybirdgirl think of these tracks? Or is the gang suddenly not really at liberty to say?

Ladybirdgirl can speak for himself, but I was talking to him a few days ago and I think it's pretty clear that we all (for the most part) feel this is a mediocre to sub-par release.

Didn't Ladybird post something before like "this is making it real hard to market them"? But the gears seem to be turning for them,so I'm not too worried about the whole marketing thing.
