I'm not talking just about Americans. My school was extremely international, I'm talking about people from Japan itself which they know their own culture better than we do. Taiwanese, Mexican, Swedish, Scottish, all sorts of people that all gave me pretty much the same answers.
I have several friends from Japan that have told me the pillows are very Japanese sounding.
Who would you go by, some American saying pillows don't sound Japanese.
Or professional musicians, from around the world, And just straight out Japanese(Who know what the hell they are talking about) That the pillows indeed do sound very Japanese.
This is just my, and several others opinion. You have your own.

In regards to TJWX5's reply, I too have found that the Japanese people also narrow the pillows as "Japanese sounding"
I was at the airport when I was waiting for my flight to Tokyo, and this lady sat next to me, I recognized her from before when I was waiting in line to exchange my American dollars into Japanese Yen. I spoke to her from before and she recognized me and we started talking, she asked me why I was going to Japan, family? visiting the sites? etc...
And I told her that I'm going to Japan to see my favorite bands 20th Anniversary Concert, and she was very surprised that I would spend so much money just to go see a concert, she asked me how long I was staying in Japan. I told her 3 days, she was very sorry. She said that was very short (everyone who knew about my trip said that it was hella short) but I didn't care, the concert itself was worth every penny. Next time though I'll stay for a month.
As I was saying, we got to talking and she wanted to know who these pillows were. I gave her my headphones and let her listen to Another Morning. She instantly recognized that they were "very Japanese" she told me she expected very bad English and Pop Rock kind of stuff. In Japan thats all the rave for some reason, she told me her 17 year old niece (she showed me a picture and I thought she was hella cute) and all of her friends listen to that kind of genre in Japan.
When I asked her what she meant by American Pop rock she referred to Fall out boy and All American Rejects. I was like FUCK THAT. The pillows are not trying to sound like them. When I let her listen to Pied Piper she instantly said that it was trying very hard to sound American. So I guess there is some truth to what I said before that the Japanese try to emulate the American genre and style in music.
