Re: New Album 10.14.09-Ooparts The quirky lead in the verses and chorus seem to be the better hooks. I like the vocal melody, but the chorus seems a bit overplayed with the "ahhahahaha" stuff.
General thoughts on the potential of the album...
I have a feeling this album will be better than expected, as in to say it will be at the very least "decent", at best "good". It's another ingredient in the big stew they've been throwing together since 2002. If you don't want to eat it, fine, hit the ala carte line. For all this talk of perpetual decline... I don't really buy it at all.
They have been consistent in my view through most of their career. Some elements of performance and tech have changed, some elements of musical tastes and influences have changed, but they've always been a band that just goes into the studio and cranks out some tunes. For me, [b]every[/b] album has its share of "ok" and "great" songs. The songs that are "ok" and "great" will differ depending on the listener... So why perpetuate the [i]assumed[/i] perfection of a particular era/group of songs over other groups? You can make the comparisons all day... but it's overplayed. It's all the pillows to me. But I digress.
This thread got off to a rough start, is all. When we get to hear the full songs I'm hoping we can stay on target being objective about what songs we like and dislike on this particular new release. I kinda feel like the topic discussions these days tend to be rather broad and noisy.

Actually, I think the verse part of the song is kind of cool. The chorus is such a bore, though, that it doesn't matter. Ah well, I guess I should lower my expectations yet again. At least it's better than FLAG STAR.
