Thanks, White Goodman. And I guess the answer I'm getting from everyone but sheer is absolutely yes, we are very competitive about this.

Well, 5 groups are going to get to go to the show. One first prize and four second prize winners. I think at least one group from overseas will make it. I think I'm going to be doing mine solo though. I can't play any instruments well enough, so I'm going to do some editing to one of my MP3's and make it a "karaoke version" and then with my indie filmmaker friend, make a sweet music video to go along with it. I know more people are going to be doing a full band thing, but maybe this will stick out. I really do hope someone from here wins something. Let the pillows know about IM, and how strong their fans are here.

By the way, anyone get a hold of Flag Star yet?

The first day you can upload for the contest is July 16, so I'm planning on
uploading then. I am very serious about this competition. Because I was already planning on going to
the show, but if I win, it would be a hell of a lot easier on my wallet.

I kind of feel like playing 1989 now, so that maybe the Please Catch This My Song works.

I think many of you are overestimating your abilities to win or place in this contest. We should be competitive against the rest of the world, but collaborative with each other.

I think we should all be as supportive and helpful towards each other as we can in this competition. Yes, we'll be competing against each other. But that doesn't mean that we shouldn't be willing to be there for each other to help all of our chances increase. Give each other constructive feedback, help out with tabbing songs. Basically, let's do everything we can to absolutely ensure that at least one pair from IM makes it to Budokan out of this.

I agree with Mare. As much as I want to win, there's nothing wrong with helping other people. Best of luck to everyone.

If I had to guess, I'd say that at least one group from IM gets in the top 20. However, this worries me: "Based on the played numbers, we will choose 20 groups and announce them at the pillows’ official website."

They're doing the top 20 via view count? That is entirely fucked up. :/
I mean, I want to win this thing, but I don't want to whore the video out to all my close friends/family members/Facebook/Twitter/whatever.

And I'll echo sheer in saying that we shouldn't get overconfident. I know Japan probably has at least a few busterseee-level devotees.

Our best hope is if they try to select winners from various regions. In that case, a standout IM entry or two might get selected.

But yeah, Japan is dead serious about rock and roll, and although we're RUGGED INDIVIDUALIST AMERICANS, cooperation is the key to victory in the real world. And I'd echo Sheer's sentiments that the goal is to get someone from IM there, so that we all benefit. We should all do what we can to make all of each others' entries as strong as possible.

But who? We need to focus on a few of us then.
I suggest that when a group is finished with recording, link it to IM
so that we can all see who has the best chances of getting in to the top 20.

WE NEED SOMEONE FROM IM TO GO!!!

The tribute CD is all that really matters, if one of us can get a hold of
one of them during the show, we can show them how we really feel.

I think we have enough time and knowledge among us to ensure that all entries from IM are as strong as they can be - without shorting some people by selecting one or two entries to champion the IM cause.

What Sleepyhead says is true. TO be honest, I can see maybe one group from overseas making it over to the top five. We've got months, so we should definately work on helping each other to the top.

Can we use this thread for file-sharing site uploads/critiques/etc...? We need someone to up our files, and I don't think we should use Youtube while the contest is going on. I guess other video sharing sites are good too.

I'm sure of the ability of the musicians around here, but yeah... I'm also sure Bustersee is already working on this thing with his bandmates over in Japan so we need to get this shit in gear!

So what, only 2 people per group can go if you win? That's kinda lame, what about all those who are in a band and use them to record??

^Yeah, that's the lame part of this contest. To be fair, it costs a lot of money to ship people overseas. It said a maximum of 100,000 yen. I wonder how much of the expenses they are actually covering for the two that go.

For me, I only plan on using two people. That's why I'm glad I'm a pianist. The piano can take care of most of the registers if you have an adequate arrangement (which I think I do, after much slaving over the manuscript). Also, there's the bonus that the pillows don't really use piano in their music (well, not since the mid nineties anyways), so I can have a lot of fun with their chord progressions.

Anyways, for the tribute album, are there going to be videos included on it? Or just audio rips?
