No way, buuuuud~dy!
How about that movie by Stephen Chow who did Shaolin Soccer. A few you seemed to have went ape shit over that. I didn't personally like it, but I'm interested in this Kung Fu Hustle.

Old films, new films...no matter. Whatever you've seen that struck you, and you want to share. I've just seen a 1938 film "The Women" about catty New York socialites, the gossip was captivating and the film starred many talented actresses like Norma Shearer, Joan Crawford, Rosalind Russell, Joan Fontaine.... I like old films that seem to be made outside of their time. 30s, 40s and 50s films that were like, "wow, I didn't think people discussed those issues on screen."
Another good oldie "Night Must Fall"- dark and creepy 30s film set in the quaint English countryside. Stars Rosalind Russell (wonderfull!) and Robert Montgomery (delicious!) as the charming, murdering houseboy. You must see.

Never saw the original. There was a terrible remake much later? Correct?

Sin City right now. you too, Mellie. there's no excuse for not having seen it. the best comic book movie ever made (and this is coming from a huge fan of Ghost World and American Splender). Sin City is amazing.
past films... anything by Buster Keaton. he could run circles around Charlie Chaplin. no offense to the little tramp, but Keaton is a god.
Go watch every Woody Allen movie you can get your hands on, and watch them chronologically. He is a genius director, prime example: the blocking in Crimes and Misdemeanors when Judah goes to Dolores apartment to try and end their affair-notice how the entire scene happens in ONE shot.
I love you.

Keaton wins.
I haven't seen Sin City and I have no intention to do so unless someone gives me a better reason than "omg gud comic books movie!".
Seriously, see Lawrence of Arabia. It's a pretty incredible movie.

Apparantly. I've not seen it, probably never will. You must see the original though.
Laurence of Arabia, very good film though I want to see it again. My dad loves that film, he likes much of David Lean's films. It also had Alec Guinness in it, such a amazing talent. Has anyone seen Alec's Ealing Studios films? "The Ladykillers" (was remade with Tom Hanks), "The Man in the White Suit", "Kind Hearts and Coronets" (loved that film), and "The Lavender Hill Mob" They're so good.
Woody Allen is the best. I never get tired of Love and Death. Radio Days is hillarious and so is Zelig.

How about:
-The cinematography. The entire movie is done in black and white save for a few accents (some of the blood, a character's eyes or lips, etc.) and it makes for very impressive shots.
-The characters aren't stereotyped good vs. bad, everyone has their own internal conflicts and they mesh perfectly together
-There's a lot of really cool fight scenes
-It flows real nice.
The best I can compare it to is Reservoir Dogs(violent yet arty, vignette (sp?) way of telling stories) With a slightly more comic-booky feel to it, but not so bad that you'll be bothered by it.
I really don't like reading comics, I've never read anything By Frank Miller, let alone Sin City; and this is the best new movie I've seen in a while, and I really recommend you go see it. Unless you're squeamish.

Battle Royale.
If you haven't seen it, then get off your ass and find it. It's the most disturbing film ever made. Eighth graders killing one another to survive. If more than one lives after 48 hours, then they're all dead! Beat Takeshi is awesome in this film; and Chiaki Kuriyama does a fantasic job, as well.
I haven't seen then sequel yet; but I hope to in the near future.
