'pillows' spelled phonetically in japanese.

ザ・ピロウズ = ZA PIROUZU = the pillows.

I have another question...how does that differ from ZA PIROUSU, or SA PIROZU or any other such variation? (Explain it to me as if I hardly knew English, let alone anything relevant to Japanese.)

ZA PIROUZU is the accepted romanized spelling based on how the english phonemes are convoluted into japanese. many sounds in english do not exist in japanese (like 'ows', and 'L'). you could say there's informal rules on how to map the sounds from one language to another in order to make the borrowed word pronounceable.

so technically those variations would mean something else, or people would just assume you've made a spelling error.

is that what you mean?

Back when I was taking Japanese, one of the native speaking teacher's assistents was explaining to me how there are many different ways to put English words into katakana, but certain spellings have been accecpted as standard.

So while those other variations sound ok, the "correct" katakana for the pillows is ZA PIROUZU. It's also the only way it's seen on the spine cards of their CDs.

EDIT: terra beat me to it.

because in english when you say "pillows" there is a "ZZZZ" sound at the end not a "SSSS" sound. and "the" sound a lot more like "za" than "sa".

I thought that Pirouzu was the name of a heathenistic false idol or deity spoken of in ancient scriptures. Then after a month or so I realized what it actually was and felt stupid.

EDIT: The false idol I was thinking of was Pizuzu...so close enough.
