Post Radiohead's 9th Album (Currently Untitled)
Have to be honest, hype levels are high for this one. After hearing their unused Bond theme for 'Spectre' I am so on board for whatever this will be.

According to an (unconfirmed) annoucement from someone in their management firm, the new album is set to drop in June, and fans in the UK have begun receiving strange leaflets in the post.

The hype and speculation around first Brand New and now Radiohead has made the past year or so a lot of fun. Always exciting to watch some next-level cryptic shenanigans going down, like what Thom and co have been doing with blanking out their social media presence.

Watched this so many times today, I absolutely love the subtle touches to tell the story. Great attention to detail.

Meh.

I like In Rainbows and parts of OK Computer and The Bends, but otherwise I've always found Radiohead incredibly overrated. Never could connect with much of their music.

I feel like I could agree with this; however, where I'm from (the ghetto,) Radiohead wasn't as widely appreciated so I never really heard much about them growing up. I'm definitely a bigger fan of ealry Radiohead, but I can still get into some of their new songs.

I've always thought overrated was a funny term, that whole "everyone else is wrong" mindset that it implies. I mean if you don't like it, you don't like it. I don't really like The Beatles but I wouldn't call them "overrated" because of it.

I totally would, but for the same logic as your reasoning for not doing so, kind of. Their impact and importance is undeniable, but I've yet to see anyone discuss their significance without also expressing a ridiculously oversimplified view on how cultural evolution and such works.

I mean, not like you can avoid oversimplifying and generalizing, but all this hyperbole about a handful of more well-known figures being "the" thing is very, very silly. It devalues local art scenes and the very meat of how art really does when we pretend these handful of megastars are actually more important somehow than the entirety of their contemporaries and predecessors.

I get that most people will argue that the fact their impact is significant means I'm just being nitpicky here, but nitpickiness and nuance is where interesting discussion happens anyway, lol.

Holy crap, the album is dropping on Sunday, not in June.

Whoa. Very powerful song and imagery.

Gave me goosebumps for a minute.

Got very sad listening/watching at work, lol.

Great song. Was honestly expecting them to drop the album today kind of like when they put out TKOL last time, but Sunday is pretty darn good, too.

Album is fucking killer, as is to be expected.

A really interesting thing I noticed - many people have pointed out that the tracklisting is alphabetical, and wondered if that was going to be the actual order of tracks on the record or if it was a mistake of some sort. In listening, there are only two pairs of tracks that are crossfaded together, everything else fades to silence and has an ambiguous transition.

Makes me wonder (thinking on the whole 0110 OK Computer/In Rainbows thing) if there's any intent on this album having alternate track sequencing. Anyway, I'm certainly going to be playing around with listening to it in different orders at some point, because that seems fun.

The album is super solid. I liked it a lot more than I was expecting to.

I like the slower, more mellow feel to it overall.
