I got Brand New's limited repressing of Deja Entendu, limited to only 1500 copies (for a birthday gift to my wife). Feels fucking good, man. Anybody else torture themselves with over-long waits from ungodly hours?

"My ambivalence toward Record Store Day merchandise is countered by my weird passion for, yes, 'the unique culture' of record stores. This ambivalence is a refraction of Record Store Day’s own branding, which requires dealing with certain capitalistic devils: the overproduction of exclusives and the strategic bracketing of 'independence.' One’s feelings for Record Store Day shouldn’t derive from its perceived authenticity or lack thereof, then, but through the more complicated calculus of Authenticity™. There’s no way around it, so how can a music fan, retailer, artist, or label negotiate the holiday’s twinned drives toward ethical consumption and capitalist exploitation? This question not only permeates all 21st century commercial landscapes, but it cuts right to the conflicted core of what it means to be a responsible consumer-citizen."

People can do their thing, but when I see a favorite album by a favorite band that has some cool extras in it, I'm going to go for it. Not much difference between pre-ordering a pillows album to get an extra pick and hoping for a poster or something should you be an early order (as some sites were known to do for a while) and waiting in line for a physical object, except for the format of the interaction.

I mean, obviously consumerism and people acting like stupid, selfish jerks are a problem in our society. Totally valid criticism, that's how any sale or thing goes, but it's not like everyone is participating in Black Friday just to get a cheap TV here, lol. Just curious if anybody else dealt with the obvious bullshit for a cool thing that meant something to them.
