So the summer kicked off nicely. Yesterday I went out to Grant Park to check out the first night. It was great. We walked around trying to find the Cannon Ball Express. They were playing on the Gibson stage. We watched them for a little while, before going over to the Best Buy tent. They were selling a bunch of albums that aren’t normally stocked. I picked up a bunch of cds I could've gotten on Amazon. Oh well, I'm Impatient. I got some Magic Sam and little Milton.

Honey Boy was first on stage. Nobody seemed to care, but I was pretty excited. Fucking 90 years old and still playing an awesome slide guitar. I also was psyched to see Sam Lay. I didn't know he was going to be there so I was surprised when I saw him setting up.

Savoy Brown...eh. Not my thing. Plus Kim Simmonds had amp problems. Mediocre set.

John Mayall fucking rocked. 100% amazing. He had so much energy and was awesome. That's all I can say about him.

After the show I was walking around, and I swear to god I saw Honey Boy Edwards sitting alone in a wheel chair signing autographs in the middle of a dark street. I thought he walked on stage, so I could be wrong. If it was him that’d be so cool. I had my heart set on seeing Hubert Sumlin today but it didn't happen. Oh well. I'll probably go tomorrow. If anybody saw it tonight let me know how it was. And if you're in the area come tomorrow, it’s free. I'll buy you an ice cream or a beer or something.

Went last night also. Both Billie Branch and Lurie Bell were really good. Buddy Guy was amazing though. I'm not even a big fan of his but I was completely impressed with his live ability. During "Damn Right, I got the Blues" he walked around the entire audience and sang while walking through the crowd. Everybody freaked out and just swarmed around him snapping photos and shaking his hand. We were by the side so we were right there as he came down. I was so close I could've stolen his hat, not that I would've. I can see why Buddy Guy is such an engaging life performer.

this one guy in this band stood on the hands of the people in the crowd. that was pretty awesome.
