I know a bunch of us have been enjoying their album the past couple of weeks, so I'm surprised no one has made a thread yet.

For those out of the know, Kimonos is a band featuring Mukai Shutoku of Zazen Boys and Leo Imai.

Listened to this on repeat for days, one of the strongest albums I've heard this year.

I LOVE this album. Everything Mukai touches is gold.

Also, Sports Men is a cover. It was originally done by Haruomo Hosono, a member of the legendary Yellow Magic Orchestra. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcDcJvUi_2I

lol yeah, everybody points that out. Also, Tokyo Lights is a Leo Imai song, so I guess that makes it a sort of self-cover almost.

hey guys, just wanted to mention that Sports Men is actually a cover by Haruomo Hosono and not a Kimonos original. Just thought i'd point that out.

I'm warming up to this album. Miss is a great track. This is a really fun album to play along with using funk-styled guitar, which I really enjoy. I think it's kind of interesting that a lot of Zazen fans were lukewarm about Asobi but enjoy this. I like Mukai's take on new wave so I'm not going to complain - especially if it means Zazen Boys go in a different, unpredictable direction from now on.

Unlikely, but it'd be nice. If Mukai could do something between Kimonos and Number Girl, it'd be Japan's new best Alt-rock.

I love that Haruomi Hosono song by the way. Infectious and very endearing.

Mogura is so goofy and edgy... love it.

But really, this whole album is general gold.

And Leo's vocals are so sexy
And Mukai comes in and ties it all together!
Such an amazing song!

I finally bought a copy of this album after not listening to it in years, and now I really like it. Mogura is a hell of an annoying track and I don't like No Modern Animal much either, but almost every other song is awesome. From Miss to the end of the album, pretty much the whole thing is a winner.

Hipster Kyle, album is under 2 years old still by a month, hasn't been listening to it for years plural.

Also, dat funky New Wave, why don't you dig it? I do agree that they're not the best songs on there though, but I wouldn't say annoying. Then again, I listen to and like some Zazen Boys, so...
