 Re: your local scene..
So that's what "scene" means. An accumulation of local music venues. I've never really known what it was, nor do we really have one where I am from. Must be an urban thing.

 Re: your local scene..
i listen to modest mouse practice when im at the park 2 blocks from my house. dont talk to me about quality!
(of course everyone loves their scene. im just pretty fucking lucky to live in a town where, hell, there are 12 shows going on tonight. it's a tuesday.)

 Re: your local scene..
Having lived in rural New Jersey for the past 22 years, I wouldn't even know where or how to go see a show if I wanted to, now that I'm a mere 20 minute PATH ride away from New York City. Considering the city, though, I'm sure it would cost a lot more than I am willing to pay.

I don't particulary mind it until they try to drag in people who are just there for the music and not to beat eachother up

 Re: your local scene..
Omaha is pretty fucking awesome. Pretty good amount of everything. Not a lot of "huge" bands by any means, but we have our fair share of nationally known bands. Not to mention the whole Saddle Creek scene, which has given Omaha the title of both the "indie capital of the world" and "the new Seattle" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgJfr-195xk (Cursive, indie) http://myspace.com/herculesne (Hercules, hardcore punk) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3rzUVAHVd4 (The Faint, electro/punkish) http://myspace.com/borealisne (Borealis, GOOD death metal.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yy1twy2p_8w (311) http://myspace.com/theheatmachine (The Heat Machine, dancehall-style ska) And of course there's Bright Eyes/Monsters of Folk...But Connor Oberst's a fuck. Unfortunately, not a big punk scene here, but what little scene we do have manages to keep itself alive, which has always been pretty inspiring to me.

It's pretty hit and miss sometimes, but in comparison to almost everywhere else in the midwest (cept for chicago and maybe Denver), it kicks ass. Going out on tour really made me appreciate it even more; it's easy to take it for granted.
