This video is awesome. I don't know a whole lot about MGMT and I wasn't too impressed with their other songs I saw on youtube, but whatever.

I just love how well this video was shot. It really gets you at all the right places. It has a clear message about one thing, and the music seems intensely pointed and open to interpretation at the same time. I think it is very well done.

Unfortunately, the comments seem to tailspin into the same few general thoughts:

"that poor kid he will have nigthmares now this video is discusting you should be ashamed seriously isn't that illegal?!" 30%

"good job, stoners, you got the quote in the beginning wrong. It's Nietzsche, not twain." 20%

"duurrrrr I'm trippin' balls" 40%

"you guys are fucking morons the song is about divorce and how the kids shouldn't be bounced around like a piece of meat. Everything was done with computers, green screens and filming techniques to ensure that the kid isn't really being harrassed by the monsters. Are you trying to tell me a kid can't act, as well? FFS kids cry all the time. etc..." 10%

So what say you? I know it's not exactly freshly brand-new, so maybe some of you have seen it, (I saw it on VH1 the first time a few months ago) but I figure it's worth a discussion on controversial/awesome/terrible music videos that try to push the art form.

My brother showed me this video a while ago. I was surprised, because I heard the song and it was terrible.
The lyrics are nowhere near as good as "Time to Pretend"
But the video is fucking unbelievable. Its the way babies see everyone else other than their mom.
Like we're all just monsters and the only face that's familiar is the mother.

Sure, I was actually thinking the same thing. What goes on in a small child's head? The way they perceive things is so incredibly different. The most innocent, harmless thing can scare them to death if they have a bad experience associated with it.

I've heard that song before, but never seen the video, and it's definitely creative, if not a little weird. I like videos that take an extra step to be original, though, and this one succeeds at that.
