i might be starting a band with my friend. we decided that we should alternate between guitar and bass. i know for sure that if i get a bass, it would be the fender MIM 60's jazz bass. Culen has suggested that i get noiseless pickups. but for guitar, i don't know which i should get: strat, tele or mustang. if i get a mustang, i should get the MIJ one, as suggested by kelp. but its going to take me a while to get the money for that thing... as for the strat, i am leaning on either the highway 1 or any from the classic series. the same goes for the telecaster. what should i get? |

well, thejedipunk has a lot of practice at pretending to be good at things on the internet, he'll surely be able to fake knowing how to play guitar. |

i have a shitty squire strat. but i love it to death cuz it feels way better than the other squire strats that i have played with. i wouldn't say i have a limit. but i am not about going out and getting a fucking les paul. i think the most i am willing to pay is as much as a 4003 Rick. the real problem is just saving up the money and the time it takes. and mare, i don't need to acknowledge that i suck. i know i suck. but i am willing to learn. so just shut the fuck up and leave this place. |

I mean what your limit probably is. Not what you can get if you believe in yourself and rob a bank. A few suggestions. 1. Take lessons. Now. I'm serious. They will benefit you so much more than a new guitar. 2. Don't get a Fender MIM Jazz bass. 3. Don't get a Mustang. 4. I hate him, but I would like to quote Slash for my final suggestion. "The most important thing is to learn how to play the guitar before you get fucking 50,000 dollars worth of fucking complicated gear" |

a good point there. i have taken lessons before but it was just way to confusing. i still retain much of what i had learned-classical style mainly and chords. but i will see if i can fit a guitar class in my schedual next year... i really only want a simple set-up. just a solid guitar and amp. not really into effects or pedals for that matter (with the exception of distortion and tuner ![]() |

Not lessons at school. Find a local guitar/music shop and ask if they offer guitar and/or bass lessons. It's cool that you want a tele. But still, I need to know how much you're willing to spend. I could recomend a great guitar for the money or an amazing guitar for lots of money. So yeah. Make up your mind on your price range. |

Highway 1 strats are nice. They are made in america, too. Strats are awesome. I love mine. You might want to put new pickups in it though. I heard they kind of hum. They're not too expensive either. If you take lessons, take jazz ones. Once you get past like 7th chords, then you're into jazz chords pretty much. |

Try going to the store and playing lots of guitars and eventually choose one that you like. |

i remember like just over a year ago that highway 1's had american pickups on them and now they don't. which kinda bummed me out. i'm more into simple stuff. you can get pretty creative and original without going into complicated chords and stuff. even if i were to get lessons, i don't know if i'd have the time to attend them. plus i would have to consider the price of them. as for a price range on a guitar/bass: no more than 1000. as much as i would love to have an over the top guitar in terms of quality, i just do see the need for them. like i said, i just want something simple/basic and that looks and sounds cool. like a tele! ![]() |

Go play some telecasters then. You can never buy a guitar without playing it first :/ It just doesn't make sense. Oh, and even if you like simple stuff, it never hurts to branch off and learn whatever you can. It all helps, you know ![]() |

a fine point there, Ciidric. like i said before, i know about chords and the like, so i could experiment there. i do have an interest in jazz also. i really need to find someone who is willing to go to musicians friend with me. the music store near my house has assholes under employment. you can't like go in there and play with out "assistance".... |
