recommend me some japanese music
Discovering new pwn music is so fun.
I am really into tokyo jihen, shiina ringo, supercar, number girl, boredoms, 10-feet, X Japan, Super Junky Monkey, shonen knife, penpals, akfg, larc en ciel, guitar wolf, go!go!7188, hide, and of course the pillows.
I also found some stuff by zazen boys, eastern youth, quruli, bloodthirsty butchers, and some other bands but havent really listened to these yet. Check my sig for more artists I like. yes, i check my last.fm recommendations but what japanese music would YOU recommend that I should really listen to? thanks!

Re: recommend me some japanese music
Anyone considering putting up some descriptions of the bands you're recommending? I mean, all this guy's getting is a list of names deemed "recommendable" by IMers. I could easily say: Consider Mass of the Fermenting Dregs, Toddle, Noodles, Sambomaster, FISHMANS, Boom Boom Satellites, 9mm Parabellum Bullet, Sparta Locals, Kimura Kaela, Aiko, Monkey Majik, Asian Kung-fu Generation, Nino Trinca, Hiromitsu Agatsuma, Ging Nang Boyz, and Vola & the Oriental Machine... but what's it all worth unless I lay out a little guide? So here: Check out Sparta Locals. They have a pretty cool "new wave" sound, if that means anything. Very solid on all parts, vocals, drums, guitars, bass - it's a very tight band. Great percussion and groove. Here's Yume Station: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FpH7NZhNMSgand Kogane Wave: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5PNhs2-brAAs for albums, I recommend Sun Sun Sun and Dreamer. That's just my preference, they both lean towards the "pop" side of things more than their others. If you're looking for something with a rougher edge, try out 9mm Parabellum Bullet. They're a pretty new band, and I guess I'd consider them sort of...heavy rock, just a TOUCH of VK, a HINT of noise, a little metal perhaps? The guitar lines are melodic and energetic, the drumming's tight. They sound a little like if Asian Kung-Fu Generation had a dark side. Here's Talking Machine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idbdfeoPkSUand Living Dying Message: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXx7VUe_KzkThey don't have a lot of material, but I recommend their new album, Vampire. Hopefully that helps.

Re: recommend me some japanese music
I prefer to keep the description "Visual-kei" to the bands that actually ARE VK because I don't like good bands being associated with that tomfoolery.
Well..9mm isn't quite punk. They're not quite emo. They're not quite a lot of things, so you have to explain them with words which they aren't (but sort of are). You gotta admit, a lot of the recent vocals have been slightly theatrical.

Re: recommend me some japanese music
Hey now, Beat Crusaders are on the same wavelength as some of the bands that get a lot of praise around here. Not that I especially like them, but I know there are other mediocre pop-punk bands some of us adore on this site...
