Howdy guys, I normally don't start threads but in this case, I wanted to encourage you all to check out what Metallica has done with their newest release, Death Magnetic: http://www.metallica.com/index.asp?item=601231 Now you might not be metal fans if you listen to The Pillows, but hopefully you can appreciate this release as a "return to the roots" project that brings back the QUALITY and CRAFTSMANSHIP to their work that was somewhat lacking over years of experimentation with commercial songwriting. Now the story of Metallica is not unlike many other bands that enter the scene with an air of freshness and gleam, only to be criticized years later for their lackluster followup projects. I for one love all generations of Metallica, but what can be seen (and heard ![]() |

I've only snuck into metal in the past couple years, and from what little I've heard by Metallica, I haven't been encouraged enough to return to see what I might have missed by passing on them (that I generally don't care for much old music outside of some notable exceptions doesn't help). However, I really appreciate such vibrant, if maybe excessive, enthusiasm, especially when it aspires to more than just a single-word appraisal, and I'm impressed by how quickly and how fluidly this became a rallying cry for forward momentum on a world-saving scale. Because of this, I will check out their newest album and see where it leads. Rock on. |

I heard The Day That Never Comes on the radio in August a few times, and every single time I was appalled to see that they practically stole the rhythm guitar of the very first song I ever wrote for their intro, differing only in a few notes on the third and fourth measures of the phrase. I'm considering a lawsuit. |

If you honestly like St. Anger and Load and ReLoad I don't know how you could like anything. Ever. That seems like the most pandering and trollish opinion anyone could ever have. I'm sorry, those albums were trash. For whatever reason I fall into the ENORMOUS camp of Metallica fans who like these albums and these albums only: Ride the Lightning Master of Puppets ...And Justice For All Kill 'em All is ok I guess, The Black Album is really overrated in my opinion. Then everything after that from... I don't even know, I'll just say Load - St. Anger was terrible with the exception of some of the covers on Garage, Inc. and most of S&M. And so I got Death Magnetic, and while I don't think I've listened to it nearly enough to form an opinion on it, I do like it but I think the only reason its getting the press and play its getting is because it's the first real studio Metallica album to not suck in exactly twenty years. But yeah, That Was Just Your Life, Judas Kiss, and Unforgiven III are good tunes, the rest that I can remember didn't do much for me. Also metal is metal, it's an acquired taste and since this board has reverted back to the level of trolling we had about three years ago (except less creative and funny), I await the like when I asked if anyone liked metal my first few weeks here. Even Elliot trolled me, and we are friends in real life goddammit. |

I don't have the "accquired taste" for metal that you are talking about, but that image is pure win. ![]() |

I bought the album on Saturday and played it for my friends. We were won over. It's not their best album, but it's their best since "The Black Album." |
