Searching shows me that there is no topic on him in here. Now, this better either be an oversight or just because everybody already knows how fucking amazing he is.

I've been listening to him more lately, and I like him even more than I used to now. Which is neat, cause I already thought he was fucking great before then. Keep forgetting to put more on my iPod, all I've had on there for the last year or so is 461 Ocean Boulevard (the only album by him I physically own lol). :shred:

Everyone admires and respects different things. Some people value Slowhand's ability to wield one of the best blues-rock guitars to ever exist, and other people value who can stand on one foot for the longest time. To each his own.

That said, any musician or guitarist who is worth his salt will admire and respect Eric Clapton. However, common laypeople can have their own opinions.

When I was getting my wisdom teeth taken out, right as they put the laughing gas on, Tears in Heaven started playing. My reaction-

Me: Oh man, this song is totally about Eric Clapton's son who fell out a window.
Nurse: Really? I don't hear that in the lyrics.
Me: You gotta listen closely. "My son fell out a windooooow"

and then I passed out.

That's the best memory I have of Eric Clapton. Also Layla is almost a good song.

edit: ah what the hell it's pretty good. And if he did play the solo on While My Guitar Gently Weeps that's pretty cool too.

I like his stuff with Bluesbreakers and Cream, nothing else by him has ever really interested me.

Sheer to the rescue with fantastic musical taste. :groovin:

Thinline: try harder. Download "Slowhand" by Clapton and "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs" (by Derek and the Dominos) (mostly Slowhand) RIGHT NOW. If that can't convince you that Clapton is one of the best musicians ever, nothing will, and may God have mercy upon your soul.

That he did. In turn, George Harrison helped write/played the solo on Clapton's "Badge". Neither are credited by their real names. George Harrison is a VERY under rated guitarist, but that's a different topic.
Claptons performance in the Concert for George is amazingly flawless. When he plays WMGGW, it's all most too much for words.

I've been a Clapton fan for as long as I can remember. It started with Sunshine of Your Love and took off from there...I love Cream and Derek and the Dominos. I love all his collab albums too, especially Riding with the King, his collab with BB King. Amazing stuff.

You should all read his autobiography if you haven't, and the new book about Patty Boyde, the girl who was dating (maybe even married iirc) to George Harrison and left him for Clapton. :D

Anyway, yeah. Great guy, amazing musician. Here's a video. :)

Cream was indeed awesome.

I would fellate Clapton if all he ever did in his entire career was lead guitar on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." But I hear he has a few other successes to his name...

Hahahaha. Yeah, imagine While My Guitar Gently weeps without Clapton's guitar. Just...not right.

Guy's been doing good music for a really, really long time, and has a ton of great stuff that you all should check out.

In fact, I'm listening to him RIGHT NOW. :groovin:

By the way, what's your guys's opinion on the outro for Layla? Some guy at school last year said that he thought it was pointless and wishes it wasn't on there. :/

The outro to "Layla" is great. Some people just don't understand music without vocals, though. It's like watching the Spanish television channel to them. And who wants to do that? Besides Metal.

Yeah, I think it makes the song even better than it woudl have been otherwise (which is great to start with haha). I'm a sucker for a good instrumental like that one.

I need to write some more instrumental stuff....maybe. Mainly I think I need to start studying more Clapton-style guitar and stuff. I've been pretty lazy about actually getting better at guitar lately, and studying Clapton and Page would be a really good way to get better.
