Fender vs. Gibson
I recently was at The Pillows Delicious Bump show in San Francisco and heard them play. Manabe had a Gibson (double cut) while Sawao had a Fender (cyclone). I wanted know what you people think sounds better.
My opinion is that the Fender cyclones, mustangs, telecasters, etc. suited them for the late 90's era with albums like Little Busters and Please Mr. Lostman. Now, however, I feel the Gibson has a more solid versatile sound for their newer music including the May 2008 single "New Animal" and also the Wake Up! Wake Up! Wake Up! album.
Straightener's frontman Atsushi Horie uses a Gibson SG and I feel their sound is very warm and just flows.
Base Ball Bear's guitarist Shōhei Yuasa uses a Fender Stratocaster (I believe) and due to that they have a very edgy piercing sound that feels like it has a mind of its own.
So, please let me know which sound you think suited The Pillows best!

Most experienced guitarists acknowledge that both sound good, but are merely different, and consequently know that debates like this are pointless.
You can say that Fender's bolt-on factory style results in a decrease in quality, but nobody complained when Henry Ford or Eli Whitney did it.
You can say that Gibsons are too expensive, but there's rarely a person who can afford one that will say you don't get what you pay for.
Edit: I am a bloody Brit, you berk.

That would be a Cyclone, notice the humbucker on the bridge. Hi Taffy!

I personally am a Fender fanboy. But that's not to say I dislike Gibson. I love the LP. Fender is better to me, but I love the LP.
The SG is just fail to me though, as compared to these above guitars. It's an ok guitar...

WHAT?!
SG's are my favorite! I agree that it doesn't sound as good as a Les Paul, but come on, Les Pauls are like middle aged women (physical appearance) while SG's are like international supermodels!

You've got that reversed my friend.
Not to mention you have the color option of maybe 7 AT MOST (being real generous), different colors.

Ditto. In terms of looks, the Les Paul has the sophisticated refinement of an older woman, with the looks of Demi Moore. The SG has the sharp looks of a younger woman, but also the naivete and lack of sopistication.
Subjective comparisons to women aside, in terms of guitar playing, generally:
1) Les Pauls sound better.
2) SGs are easier to play.
Take your pick.

Beasted.
Motion to move this to the music forum since it really doesn't have much to do with the pillows.

Granted.
LPs are indeed a more "sophisticated"-looking guitar, but I think both are pretty great.
However, my heart is taken by Telecasters and then Jazzmasters.

sg
I think both are great but, the sg has something the les paul doesn't!
Symmetry! (or at least the sg is closer to being symmetrical)
I say this because I feel the Lp's shouldn't be missing that little dent in the upper-left of its body. For some reason, it just kills me!

Actually, the indented section indicates that the guitar is missing wood, since if it wasn't removed, it would look like the guitar with wood there.

Well, these ARE guitars, and they ARE meant to be played. This is like Manabe likely enjoys his double cutaway, as it gives him enhanced playability. Try playing some decent lead on the upper neck of an acoustic with no cutaways. You cannot*.
*unless you a pro.
