..Wow. I really like the sunburned body. It's in pretty good condition too... but if I ever bought something that expensive, it'd probably stay locked up in a case and I'd take it out to impress people every two years. |

The condition of the body isn't all that amazing, but the neck is extremely well-preserved and the pickups look almost brand new except for some rust on the magnets, which happens over time. Tens of thousands of dollars for pre-CBS Fender guitars isn't unheard of. |

i noticed the same about the neck as well as the head stock. the head stock looked brand-new. almost no damage, except 2 small fading spots on the fender logo. not incredibly noticeable. while the back of it does look like shit, the front isn't all that bad. there is aging in the clay dot markers too. |

[b]String mutes[/b]. The actual bridge cover and pickup cover were there on the body of the Jazz and Precision bass for aesthetical reasons because quite frankly, people back then didn't care to see what made the electric bass work (bridge, saddles, string mutes, and pickups). Fender claimed in the original product description that the covers were helpful in trapping the magnetism given off by the pickups as it amplifies the strings being played, enhancing the sound a smidge. The pickup cover in particular served as an anchor for players who played with their fingers rather than their thumb as it was originally intended to be played to completley recreate the upright sound. |
