Anyone interested in co-hosting jap music panel?
I've been hosting Japanese music panels at anime conventions for the past few years now, seeing as how it's the only popular venue for fans of Japanese culture in America. I used to be more into anime in the past, but now am really not in touch with it anymore and only go to these things in the hopes of meeting other "normal" people in Jap music and stuff. I'm also the only person I know who is into it in the first place, so I haven't had anyone to collaborate with on these panels before, which isn't that bad, but I do wish I had someone else to work with because it could be more informative and interesting. Basically I talk about bands that I like and music that I think is cool, which is the whole indie/punk/alternative/rock scene, and then I throw in some stuff about how the industry works over there, where to find more info, etc. The one I'm doing next is Otakon in Baltimore, MD which is from August 8-10th this year. So I'm wondering if there's anyone who has any experience, or thinks they have enough knowledge and diversity on the subject of Jap music, that might want to collaborate with me on this. I need to submit my list of panelists very soon, you will be able to get free admission to the convention which is nice, so if you were planning on coming anyway then this would be good for you. I live in Baltimore too, so if you live on the east coast too, then it would be easier to meet up to work out the details and preparation beforehand. Even if you're not interested in helping me, you should come check out the con and my panel because you can have a good time even if you aren't really into anime and all that other stuff. I videotaped the last panel I did in DC back in February, so I'll try and upload a clip or two from that if you want to check it out for yourself and get a better idea of what I do. Well, I'll be at Otakon, and while I listen to a lot of J-rock, I don't think I'm a master on the subject. But hey, I'll still stop by. Just show a clip of something like the Shiroi PV or Trip Dancer at this thing so the so-called average anime fan can see more of the pillows beyond FLCL.

Or totally alienate the FLCL fans by showing them the Girlfriend PV.

Re: Anyone interested in co-hosting jap music panel?
Actually, in order to give a broader perspective of each band I cover, I make little video montages spanning their work thus far. And last time for The Pillows, I started off the clips with Daydream Wonder, then Swanky Street, Babiron no Tenshi and Go! Go! Jupiter.
This time I want to maybe do more custom video work, like mini-documentary intros or something with custom graphics and whatnot; my full time job is as a video editor but I've never really taken the time to incorporate any of those skills into my presentations. Maybe do a video morph sequence of Sawao's face from 1990 to present time, lol.
