When I found out about this some time back, it was kind of like having a birthday wish come true. Anyway, I'm not a big fan of Petrucci - I'd much prefer Satch, Vai, and Gilbert. But hell, I'll take what I can get. If it weren't for this, the only way to see Paul is to travel all the way to, say, Japan or California - I guess the man doesn't like to travel. |

John Petrucci is an amazing guitar player. gilbert and satriani are great to but id have to go with Petrucci as a favorite |

Petrucci is a prog fucked ass who couldn't play a melodic line with taste if he had to. John has really fast tapping & alternate picking, but not Paul Gilbert fast. John's legato playing is decent but he can't touch Satriani. John's sweeps aren't even that fast or clean. I CAN SWEEP BETTER THAN JOHN PETRUCCI. |

I wonder if there is something wrong with me, but G3 never excited me, sometimes it even made me -  - as for example when I saw/heard schredding version of Jimi's Little Wing. :/  But then I guess it's just because of the music taste, I can say shred is boring shit, other can say that blues is.
On the other hand - Paul Gilbert - I liked his pentatonic guitar lesson videos.

I've never really seen the appeal of this whole G3 thing. One shredder is bad enough, but... three?!
Petrucci's okay, though. Some of his playing on "Images and Words" is pretty melodic, along with the "ballad" type songs from Metropolis pt. 2 and "Goodnight Kiss" from Six Degrees. But the riffing and pointless shredding stuff is pretty boring. I wish he'd just work on writing a nice song instead of trying to impress people. |
