Post Eraserheads
Eraserheads

They took their name from the title of a movie by David Lynch that they read while flipping through the pages of a magazine. When they saw the movie years later, they concluded that it had a dark and confusing theme, thank God the name didn't bring bad luck to their careers. Their music is unclassifiable, they recklessly walk the crooked line between the underground and the mainstream with a mix of alternative, pop, rock and everything in-between, instantly familiar yet totally unheard of. The Eraserheads have gone from being the biggest "flukes" to being the biggest thing ever to happen to the Philippine music industry.

ORIGIN.
December 1989. Four college guys armed with second-hand instruments decided to form a band, thinking of it as a nice way to catch the attention of girls on campus. They did mostly covers, playing at every university gig they managed to get into. Eventually, they did the rounds of Manila's rock club circuit but found that the road to success was not.

Add to the fact that Ely Buendia (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Raymund Marasigan (drums), Buddy Zabala (bass) and Marcus Adoro (lead guitar), collectively known as Eraserheads realized that they weren't all that good at belting out other people's hits. So, they concentrated on writing their own materials instead. "After all, if we committed a mistake. No one would recognize it since they don't know the song, right?," Ely explained.
Performing their original songs live soon earned them a cult following in their school which gradually spread outside the campus. One of the songs, a spicy pop song entitled, "Pare Ko", became for its lyrics coupled with a few cuss words at their places.

Summoning up all their courage, they recorded a cheap, lo-tech demo tape in 1991 and shopped in around record labels and radio stations, hoping to have their songs reach public awareness. They were, unfortunately, rejected at every turn.

A professor-friend from their school helped record a better version of the demo which was named, "Pop-U!" in defense to all those who've turned them down. As this demo went around, it found its way to BMG Records (Pilipinas) a year after it was made and the rest, as they say it, is history. The stuff true success are made of.

the original eraserheads band broke up in 2002 (lead singer ely buendia left the band) but raymund, marcus and buddy got back together soon after with a new lead singer, kris gorra-dancel, to start a new eraserheads.

i found about eraserheads two months ago, and it sure didn't take long to realize that it is impossible not to fall in love with these guys! they become a sensation in the philippines and around the world - because eraserheads comprised of everything that is lovable about musicians + the fun in music (dds!) from hits such as toyang to tamagotchi baby, eraserheads smiled all the way through.

i've listened to toyang, ang huling el bimbo, tamagotchi baby, fruit fairy & light years yet eraserheads mp3s are hard to get hold of ;_; if you do get a hold of them, hold on tight (and *winks*share)

the reason for their break-up was never made public. a lot of conjectures, but, as far as i know, no official statement from any of the former band members. all of them have their own projects now: ely in pupil, raimund in sandwich and pedicab, buddy in the dawn, and marcus... where is marcus, anyway? i have no idea. but yeah, it makes me kind of wonder if they still talk (like ely with the rest), especially when their bands perform in one gig (like the last nu 107 rock awards).

but anyway... their old songs bring back a lot of good memories. like vandalizing three desks with the full lyrics of light years in my freshman year in high school : /

lol, true. i remember making a copy of that into a cassette tape (no internet then), but i don't know where that tape is now. =__=
