I can't remember if I mentioned her before, but she's

worth checking out. I really got into her album Soviet Kitsch, and

her new album "Begin to Hope" is continually on my playlist.

Best songs so far:

Après Moi
Fidelity
Hotel Song

i thought that on the intarweb we didn't have to start sentences with "i believe..."

anywho - i find nellie mckay to be cuter, catchier, edgier... might be because i heard mckay first, but i always felt like spektor was a ripoff of her. *shrugs*

Now I can't say Regina Spektor dosen't rip off other artists,
but she sure as hell isn't ripping off Nellie Mckay.

Let's get a few things straight.

Nellie Mckay is a 19 year old poptart that released her
debut album through Columbia Records in 2004.

Regina Spektor has been finding her way through the indie
scene for the past six years. Only now in 2006 has she signed to
a major label.

Nellie Mckay wrote a song about her cat. Edgy?

Regina Spektor writes songs about cancer, drugs, politics,
natural diasters, more drugs and even songs about
listening to people having sex to her songs.

Black Francis or Iggy pop she is not, but it's somewhat
strange to hear those lyrics coming out of her
while she innocently sits behind the piano.

As far as catchy goes, listen to: Us, Ode to Divorce, Better,
and Fidelity.

And finally, cute. That one's easy. Blonde or brunette?
