is that even a valid question? they play different music so its hard to compare them. they are in different time periods, different trends, different popular musical likings.
so i dont know if this can be answered easily...

the pillows are better because they're all still alive.

As much as I am not into the Beatles, you can't really compare the two. The pillows were inspired by the Beatles, this much is true. But the Beatles' music was the music of a generation. Practically the whole world was listening to them at their peak. However, the pillows have not even scratched the surface here in America. Yes they had incredible turn out at their shows. But not alot of people know them. They are still not that well known in their native Japan. Yes they have had a few hits, but very sporadic. Songs by the Beatles were chart busters left and right. Their influence is far reaching as well. Every single band that came after them have all claimed influence by the Beatles. Compared to the Beatles did and accomplished, they are meh.

Japan is superior. pillows win by default, therefore.

As the others said, this isn't really a fair question...but I will say this: the pillows are way underappreciated in their J-pop loving homeland...

hmm... were the beatles an immediate hit? or did they toil in obscurity for a while before making it big?

They toiled in Hamburg D: But it didn't take 15 years for them to become the biggest band on the planet.

They are both equally good, but The Beatles didn't have Shinichiro.

You're talking about the most overrated and the most underrated bands of the past 50 years. So I suppose they even each other out.

sounds good. but, yes, this question is really unanswerable. it's like, "hey, who was a better musician, bach, or van halen?"
