Post subject:  Dear instant music

I've been given a $600 dollar budget, 700 max, to buy a new amp. I've got halfstacks, and i've got practice amps. I'm looking for something in between. Maybe a 2x12 type thing. Tips?

My Fender Hot Rod Deluxe (1X12) was about $550 I think.

I'm thinkin I might get a tube one. I like tubes a lot, though the only one I have is a bit large and too hefty to truck around. We'll see.

I find my amp to be heavy, but then again, I'm a wimpy little guy.
My Fender Hot Rod Deluxe (1X12) was about $550 I think.
I'm lookin for a studio kinda amp, and I played one someone had backstage at a show one time. It was pretty sweet clean as I recall, so perhaps that's a win. Any problems with it? Things you don't like?

I'm not sure if it's good for studio use; it has an awful lot of power for an amp its size, but I'm not an expert on this at all. The only other thing I can think of is that the amp's distortion is best suited for rock/blues, so if you want a heavier distortion, say for some styles of punk and metal and whatnot, a pedal is required.

I've played Hot Rod amps before, and I didn't think they were anything special at all. I bought a Peavey Classic 30 instead. It blew them away, clean and overdriven. Plus, it's made in the USA and less expensive.
