i've heard a lot of arguments about this in particular. I myself don't really feel that much of a difference, but others do.

"rolled edges"? Do you just mean the body edges on Strat in general, compared to the sharp edges of a Telecaster?

American > Highway One > Standard

As for the other ones.. I guess that's just preference. Of course, no one likes Squiers.

Standard is MIM and Highway 1 is USA. How could standard be better? BEcause it has a regular finish?

It's not enough of an improvement to merit the extra cost.

The Mexican-made Classic series (50s and 60s Tele, Strat, Thinline, etc.) is the best deal you're going to get. I think they are, at least, a far superior deal to the horribly overpriced American series guitars. And now that they're putting medium-jumbo frets on the MIM Standard Strat and Tele, the US guitars don't have that much of an edge on those, either. If you pop some new pickups, electronics, bridge, etc. onto a MIM Standard guitar, you can get something better than the American guitars for a few hundred less. The woods and finish are very similar quality.

But if you want the best, buy individual parts and assemble the guitar yourself. It's more trouble, especially finishing, but you can get a custom shop quality axe for only a little over a $1000. I've read many, many good things about building your Fender-style guitar.

Oh yeah... rolled edges are pretty easy to do yourself with a little sandpaper. But I never noticed much of a difference playing, so I don't really care whether a guitar has them or not.

The Japanese-made guitars are very high quality with good woods and finishes, but the pickups and electronics suck, so be prepared to replace them if you buy a Japanese Fender.

Really? That's a pretty large statement...is that why they're (from what I've seen) cheaper than American made ones?
