Have you ever wanted to do a cover for a song?

I wanted to cover The Gymnast, High Above the Ground by The Decemberists, but my friends and I had no drummer. Being the perfectionist I am I don't want to do it if we are short of a drummer.

Does the fact that you are missing an important instrument in a song keep you from playing it in a group?

Remember a cover doesn't have to be a blatant copy of the original song. Actually, its more interesting when the artist approaches the song totally differently.

Perfect example: The covers of Our Love and Peace (Salon Music) and Sad Sad Kiddie from Synchronized Rockers.

covers can be fun. after i left my band in high school i started to learn other songs and make my own variations. I made a cover of Joe Jackson's Stepping Out. Even though i didn't have bass or percussion, it was fun to do nonetheless.

I guess I just feel like a song is empty without all the instruments. Maybe I'm the overly picky one.

I record acoustic covers of songs all the time. Sometimes I multitrack another guitar on there, but more often than not it's just me and my guitar.

And when I do Pillows covers it changes even more, since Sawao's above my vocal range.

IF you want to do a perfect copy of the song (arguably impossible in any event) then of course you need all the instruments. If you wanna capture the spirit of a song, that can be done almost any way you like.

I've always wanted to do a cool arrangement of Siren by Asian Kung-fu Generation.

I actually already did one as a project for my electronic music class last semester, but I don't think it's that good.

I've wanted to do a cover of "KAJA KAJA GOO" by Polysics for a while now. But recently Turbonegro's "Blow Me (Like the Wind)" has slowly risen to the top of songs I want to cover (one of those "push you crotch in to a hot girl's face" type of songs).

I want to cover Trenchtown Rock by Bob Marley, or possibly Rivers of Babylon. Accoustic-ly, yo.
I also want to cover a whole bunch of other songs >>; but those are probably the highest.
I'd REALLY love to cover The Postal Service-Nothing Better with this friend of mine, which I think I'll be getting the chance to soon =P such a good song.
