Well D'arcy didn't even write any songs. I remember reading somewhere that she was so awful at bass that Billy would have to record her basslines for her sometimes because she would need too many takes to get it right. And Jimmy was always an official member, you're probably referring to the incident when their touring keyboardist died when he OD'd on heroin with Jimmy. He was arrested and then fired from the band, but they let him back in a few years later iirc. They were probably taking drugs at the time but D'arcy and Jimmy were the only ones who actually got into trouble with the law so...
But I've always hated how the media portrayed them as these saviors of all things rock in the 90s. And their image was just...good grief. Look up a few promotional pictures of the band and you'll see what I mean. Talk about over the top.

Oh I've seen promo pics. The Pumpkins where my best friends favorite band for like 10 god damn years, so I've seen pictures and footage and everything else. They were the oddest looking rock band ever. Like did you see the pic with Billy, Darcy, James and their child dopplegangers? Or the weird ass neon lights that made Billy look like Jesus?

On the topic of Smashing Pumpkins: I like maybe one or two songs. I don't care for the majority of their songs. I like Today and one or two others. I absolutely haaate Bullets with Wings or whatever that song is called. Billy Corgan's voice just grates on me after a while. Best Smashing Pumpkins song ever is the one Stephen Lynch does making fun of him. WHERE ARE MY CAR KEYS? THEY WERE RIGHT HERE (whinevoice) IN MY HAAAAND!

As for Nine Inch Nails: besides Hurt (mostly because of Johnny Cash) I don't like anything by them. I could NEVER get into industrial music even remotely. The sound is just so bland. It's like they took metal and slowed it down, stripped away the musicality of it, and added a mall goth singer for everrry industrial band.

Jimmy Eat World - Just Tonight... came on the radio at work and I was like AW YEAH FUTURES. Get Futures if you don't have Futures. Holy shit great album.
