Tidus shared this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8iL9xCZUPwg

Recommend starting with "Gossip" or "Falling" in particular if you need to be convinced to check the whole set.

I've heard this band. Did you post them before? They're pretty awesome.

Very cool Japanese indie band, ArtTheaterGuild.
https://soundcloud.com/arttheaterguild/papermoon

I'm seeing them on October 1st in Shimokitazawa (they're the opening act for the pillows.)
They're big fans of the pillows (the song I linked is called "papermoon") and Sawao even remixed their first EP.

Aw man, that Sawao remix sounds like the lovechild of a BTB song and like...Shiroi natsu. Loving this. :o

This is a really pleasant surprise this evening. Thanks for posting, Mafu. They've got so much going on that sounds like the pillows, and there's something really special about the sound of his voice. On 4AM Mellow Diver he reminds me of "My True Colors" by The Collectors. I'm not sure if it's his singing style, the production, or both. Do you guys think the sound is similar?

Cool stuff Mafu! Thanks for sharing.
Wow, I already liked Sitting on a paper moon by the pillows, Paper Moon the movie, It's Only a Paper Moon by Nat King Cole, and now there is another rad 'papermoon'. Kewl
Definitely with Mare on 4AM Mellow Driver

Sky Ferreira (thanks Google Play music! I've been discovering some new stuff through their stations)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_dGwWRzyIM

It reminds of some other band/singer but I can't put my finger on it right now.
Damn... did not even know that Love Buzz was covered from Shocking Blue (which is an old Dutch band)... happens too often that I realize a song is actually a cover of another song only years after I heard it for the first time.
I'm loving the singer's voice. Not something I would have discovered without that cover. :D

I love her voice too, it's so... raw or something. I much prefer their version over Nirvana's. Actually I never really liked Nirvana's version. There are better songs on Bleach.

If you guys like Sky, check out the band DIIV, similar vibes, and they have a sing with her.

The Velvet Underground

This song in particular reminds me of Chop Suey's intro.

It incorporates some very throwback electronic euro dance music tidbits and I love it. DDR af, for sure. :groovin:
My favorite so far is Key, which is less DDR and more "anime theme meets repeated musical trope."
Simple as heck, but that repeated upshift feels joyous every time.

Edit: lol the "euro dance music" thing was a shot in the dark, since I don't really know EDM subgenres and history at all, but Mat Zo, who is another producer and friend of Porter's, posted on Twitter that the Virtual Self project was Porter consciously aiming at a sound influenced by the production and style of 90's eurotrance and stuff. So, neat.
