I get that A LOT with The Back Horn's stuff.
As for Mukai...When I saw the Zazen Boys play Saizensen live at Countdown 05/06, the riff really made me go ZOMG traditional Japanese!!
I feel.

Yeah, occasionally I notice that. Lots of the riffs have some kind of japanese feel. Instant Radical was the first time I heard it. Its only natural that your culture will reflect in your music.
And also on Hantoumei Shoujo Kankei, starting at about 3:18. The riff, and the overall beat just really make me think of some Japanese festival with people in elaborate costumes. It's....weird.

Whisky & Unubore always makes me think of stuff like that. Especially with the intro they sometimes do for the live version.

I'm pretty sure that Mukai and/or Inazawa are actually Buddhist. There are often references to Buddhism in almost everything they do.
Ex.
Num Ami Dabutz is a Buddhist chant meaning praise Buddha. The name of the album is called NUM HEAVYMETALLIC. "Praise Heavy Metal".
Urban Guitar Sayonara takes place mostly IN a temple.
Mukai's projects often create music similar to that which is played by traditional Japanese instruments.
Mukai's singing in the beginning of Metal Friction on ZAZEN BOYS III is very similar to a Buddhist chant.
In the US tour DVD, Mukai sings a chant while Inazawa does "overtone singing"(which kinda takes practice) while Dave Friedmann watches.
Yeah that's about it.

On a side note, how would one go about getting that distinct metallic "Mukai" sound you hear in most of NG's songs, besides having a Telecaster.
Also, what font is it that appears in every NG PV? And what does the thing at the end of the PVs say?

His sound is very distinct, yeah. I know this sounds weird, but whenever his rhythm is really audible, it sounds like a...."splash of metal". Not the music genre, but actual metal.
And the font is indeed awesome.
Num-Ami-Dabutz's killer bit right before Tabuchi launches into madness: "dadadadadadahdah DAH-DAH! dadadadadadahdah DAH-DAH!"
With the big NUMBER GIRL NUM AMI DABUTZ. font. so cool.

I can only describe Mukai's sound as having a "ting" or sort of metallic twang. It's very unique and makes me orgasm.

Hmm... let's see. He always plays a Tele into a Vox AC30. I don't know about effects, but I suspect he sets his amp EQ with the mids about halfway, the bass rolled back, and lots of treble.
