It's actually more of a hsitory lesson on Rivers Cuomo. I don't know if you got the deluxe version, but the liner notes explain it a little more. But yea, the second half of the song is amazing, especially if you're including the 4 bonus tracks. Angel and the One, Miss Sweeny, and then Pig one after the otehr is just amazing. :D
no I didnt get the delux apparently :eh: I got the first version I saw at target when shopping for socks.

can I get the additional songs on Itunes? I think im gonna hit reckless records with my next paycheck and pickup some more weezer. I've been falling in love with crunchy powerpop recently.

Post Re: Weezer
I was pretty disappointed by Raditude, and that makes me sad. :( My expectations were already pretty low too. And once again, the band can't pick tracklists, and leave two awesome songs off the regualr edition. Get the 4 tracks off the deluxe version. Or at least Run Over By a Truck and The Prettiest Girl In The Whole Wide World. Prettiest Girl quite possibly might be the best song Rivers has released since 1996.

What pisses me off though, is that he wrote this song during Weezer's hiatus in 1998. He played it at some live shows with Homie which produced some awesome bootlegs which everyone loved. Then he puts the demo out on his Alone II album last year. And now, he brings the song back... only to put it on the fucking deluxe version where no one will hear it. Go listen to that song, it's beautiful. :groovin: Here's where I'm ranking the albums now though:

1. Blue
Pinkerton (depends on my mood)
3. Red
4. Maladroit
5. Make Believe
6. Raditude
7. Green

At least Green had Don't Let Go, Island in the Sun, Hash Pipe (and technically Dope Nose since both were written at the same time), and O Girlfriend. :/

But anyways the only songs I can stomach on Raditude are I Want You To, Trippin' down the Freeway, and Prettiest Girl. Other than that all the songs run together rather poorly with very little really sticking out like those 3 songs. I can understand Rivers and Weezer no longer have that angst they had during Blue and Pinkerton, they've matured and settled down and now write songs just for fun and income. However angst or not that still does not excuse poor songwriting (Heart Songs and The Spider were brilliant and show that Rivers still can write great songs if he wants to!), there isn't much that really makes this album feel like a Weezer album, it just feels very generic.

I haven't heard the album yet.

I first found out about them starting at Hashpipe and I haven't heard Blue or Pinkerton. For this album, some of the tracks from the descriptions sound like neat ideas, at least. At this point, I can't discern if it's general dislike for the songs or other reasons so I'll need to hear the album before I can have more insight on it. And whatever there is to say about including rappers/rap style for a song...

^If you really haven't listened to The Blue Album or Pinkerton then listen to Raditude and then dare to compare my friend.

Yea, there's not a single track I'd skip on Blue. One of the few absolutely flawless albums I've ever listened too. i ahve the same respect for Pinkerton. You're in an interesting position Cloudy One. Try listeneing to Raditude first, then Blue and Pinkerton. If only so you can see how much they've fallen. And I'd add Rivers' two "Alone" albums to the only Weezer albums necessary to listen too. And all the unreleased stuff from those two eras. I mean, stuff like Thief You've Taken All That Was Me, Hot Tub, Paperface... it's all so frigging amazing. While Radiude dissapointed me for the most part, I'm super excited aout Pinkerton Deluxe next year. Can't wait to hear what else is in the vault. Full band version of Superfriend maybe? Long shot, but one can hope.

Yea, but The Green Album is so bland. If they could've done the album the way they did Don't Let Go for the AOL Sessions in 2005, it could've been awesome. A few more songs stand out to me on raditude. the three you mentioned, but also Run Over By a Truck, and to a lesser extent I Don't Want to Let You Go and The Underdogs. The demo version on Alone II for I Don't Want To Let You Go was so much better though, it's a shame. Basically, Prettiest Girl saved this album from being their worst.

I remember reading somewhere that a lot of the new Weezer shit is written by other band members besides Rivers. If this is true, I really think that Rivers should give Weezer the big "fuck you" and go the way of Morrissey.

Post Re: Weezer
Well, yea on Red there were two songs written by two of the other members and a third was co-written by another member and Rivers. But Rivers wanted the band to do that. For Raditude though...shit. Rivers went crazy with collaborating with as many artists as possible, outside the band. He only ended upwriting 4 of the songs by himself on the album. Look at the co-writers here for each song:

1. "(If You're Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To" Rivers Cuomo, Butch Walker
2. "I'm Your Daddy" Cuomo, Dr. Luke (produces for Pink,Kelly Clarkson)
3. "The Girl Got Hot" Cuomo, Butch Walker
4. "Can't Stop Partying" (featuring Lil Wayne) Cuomo, Jermaine Dupri
5. "Put Me Back Together" Cuomo, Tyson Ritter, Nick Wheeler (two of the guys from All American Rejects)
6. "Trippin' Down the Freeway" Cuomo
7. "Love Is the Answer" Cuomo, Jacknife Lee
8. "Let It All Hang Out" Cuomo, Jermaine Dupri, Jacknife Lee
9. "In the Mall" Patrick Wilson (Weezer's drummer)
10. "I Don't Want to Let You Go" Cuomo
11. "Get Me Some" Rivers Cuomo, Dr. Luke
12. "Run Over by a Truck" Cuomo
13. "The Prettiest Girl in the Whole Wide World" Cuomo
14. "The Underdogs" Cuomo, Kazuhiro Hara (he produced some songs for BoA)

So yea, shit collaborations gets you shit music for the most part. I honestly don't think it's any surprise that my five favorite songs off the album include all 4 songs solely written by Rivers. :|
