Wasn't there a documentary of the time they toured in the us? I remeber seeing the band walking into cbgb in something on youtube.

yeah, but he only has two of the original five parts he uploaded on there now.
Yeah, I've seen that a few times.
Hey thinline, what kind of guitar is Mukai using? I thought it was a 72 but a 72 comes with a humbucker if i'm correct. It's not the usual Japan Standard that he usually uses.

Sawao had a similar looking one back in the old days. Unless it was a gift, I don't think it's the same one. But regardless, I have no idea.

I have that video. It's like 16 minutes long and has one of the Toumei Shojou Videos at the end(lie 1 minute of the non-manga version).
Oh yeah. It's the beginning of the pv Hide The Shuffle put up. I finally got the whole file for that separately a couple months ago.

The rest of the footage is from their US tour (and includes that Iggy Pop Fan Club video above).
I remember there being a part where some guy tells them that it's there time to go onstage, and thinking that they don't understand, repeats himself a few times, and they're just like, "uh, okay.." It was amazing, if only because Number Girl is the greatest band ever.

just saw the Urban Guitar Sayonara video. It was a good thing it was Mukai that was doing the stare down with Tabuchi instead of me.
I...wouldn't have been able to control myself.
I also learned that in addition to being an awesome drummer, Inazawa is a high school temple keeping, meditating, shamisen playing, psychic powered ladies' man. He also an awesome barber.

That guitar is a normal Tele. Like Sawao's old one, it's a black body/black pickguard/maple neck model. I doubt they're the same; in all likelihood, Mukai's playing a Fender, not an ESP.

Out of all the Japanese bands I started checking out a few weeks ago, Number Girl was definitely the toughest to get into, but I think they're my favorite (excluding pillows) now. I would take them over their big influences (Pixies and Sonic Youth) any day.
It took a while for me to realize that there's some sick guitar playing in their songs. I gotta figure some out...

Never heard them. B-Side or live?

You fucking fail.
They are on Omoide In My Head 4. Both instrumentals, but there is a US recording version of Tourima Ride On On with vocals. That version isn't that great.

One little bit I really enjoy about Mukai (in general).
Every once in a while, you can hear a flicker of something that's...well, hard to describe. Sort of a traditional Japanese flair. Like Noh stuff.
Best example: Listen to the singing vocals (not rap) on Num-Heavymetallic (the song). Sounds very "traditional"-style somehow. Ok, not "somehow". It really does, and I think it's one of the best elements of that entire album.
And also on Hantoumei Shoujo Kankei, starting at about 3:18. The riff, and the overall beat just really make me think of some Japanese festival with people in elaborate costumes. It's....weird.
Anyone else ever have this cross their mind?
