The song title sounds so mid-90's, I like it though

I love the guitar, but I'm not digging your vocals, Mare. Sorry.

The song has an awesome structure though

I don't like the way my voice came out either, but I figured it was acceptable enough to keep for a rough demo. I recorded that coming out of a weekend of drinking and smoking, so it's small wonder that I wasn't able to sing well, lol. We'll fix that aspect up in the future for sure.

I'll be honest: personally, I don't really like the vocal style. That said, it still came out way better than the Tonight cover. I was impressed by how much power and control you've gained with your voice gained since then. Kudos.

Sheer, your guitar work sounds downright professional. The solo had some rockin' parts, but it was nice and concise, and it fit very well with the song in general.

Also, drum machine actually sounded pretty good. Almost like you had Shin accompanying you guys (zing!).

I didn't really like the song itself (personal taste), but the musicality is there.

Knowing your taste (heck, this probably applies to most IMers), you'll like our other stuff more, as that song was specifically meant to be a fun, poppy song.

I actually wrote the guitar solo, so I'll gladly take that compliment. ;)

Again, I'm really not as terrible a singer as the two videos you guys have seen might lead you to think...I just don't take care of my voice. Next time I record, I plan to do warm-up exercises beforehand and pick a day offset by a good half a week from the last time I drank or smoked so that I can really do some quality singing. 8) Thanks a ton for the feedback though, we've gotten overall positive responses to the song, which is good. Obviously, there's a lot of room for improvement still, but we're working on it, and I think we're getting a lot better. :shred:

I decided to toss up two other songs we recorded (though one is a little incomplete, as I never decided what to do for the guitar solo) plus a song I recorded by myself that I may or may not have posted in this thread a while ago, I don't really remember and am too lazy to look. Again, sound quality is pretty meh for the most part, particularly singing (for the reasons explained previously). These are rough demos, we'll get good ones done in the fall, etc. I recommend "Painted Skies" the most of them. Go ahead and take a look:

I've gotten to the point where I have a ton of songs, but no good means to record them (no vocals, no other instrumentalists available to play them)... well OK, I'm at the point I've been at all along, haha. But the point is, I was thinking I wanted to share some of my songs with IM, so I think what I'm going to do is shoot a series of "piano covers" for songs that I've written, like I usually do for the pillows and other rock bands I cover on piano! Just to give you guys a taste.

Marekenshin that "Surely, Shirley" chorus has been in my head all damn week. xP

Really good stuff here Peace. I'm really liking your set up. The sound is very catchy and interesting. Poets of broken teeth is my favorite so far.

Edit: So after listening to your stuff. Here is what I think.

1. Your rhythm and drums are the strongest pieces in all of your songs. Both dishing out really catchy punk sounds.
Try to focus on keeping that sound.

2. Your voice is very clear and your lyrics are well thought out. But I think that if you filter your lyrics and try to
give a little more effort into the highs and lows of your songs. Instead of a consistent track where your voice gets lost within the guitar and drums. Try to make some words stand out.

*** An example of what I'm trying to emphasize would be like this --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDDKhqdF-xg
Notice: That he emphasizes on certain key words that give a little more umph to the song. First thing that came to mind.

All in all your band sounds really solid and just needs some improvement to make it a success.

Post Re: Post your songs.
holy shit lol thanks Brye. I knew most of the people here wouldnt care for it.

at this point those tracks are old news. I wish you were up here so you could come to one of our shows. I've pretty much scrapped Too Human and The Fog after our bassist left, but we got two new songs that we're gonna be putting in our set and two new members, my bandmates keep talking about how much they like one of em called "Off Beat" and my drummer said the first time he played it, it felt like he'd been playing it for months, I'm really excited for that one.

as far as singing goes, practicing and recording has taught me alot about my voice and it's really become stronger. Some friends and I were all pretty drunk doing a sing along and I started belting em out and people were all like "oooh you got a really good voice."

I'm glad you like the rhythm and drums they are the best thing about those tracks. I really love the tone of my eastwood high flyer and Chad has some cool beats. and Poets is my fav too.

I hear what you say about the emphasis on certain words, aka vocal hooks, emphasising certain words that carry the message and making something stick in your head. I've gotta work on that, the trouble starts when you write too many words and you cant hold onto a word.

Hey, that's some pretty cool stuff, Davis brothers (cousins?).

How do you record/mix/produce/whatever that? Came out nice.
