So this is the newest stuff I've been working on. I play all the instruments, and I just started playing the drums, so that is a little rough and I'm not really much of a singer. Let me know what you guys think![/quote]

Listened to "New Song." I think I would be very proud of myself if I could produce something half as well.

I have to admit I'm quite curious as to what your recording and mixing setup is, because the recording quality is great. I also liked the song a lot, by the way. Then again, I've liked all the stuff you've posted so far, so small wonder there.

My recording setup is actually pretty simple. I just have a Boss BR 600 digital 8 track. I use these two shitty mxl condenser mics that I bought in a pack for 100 bucks or something. I use the pencil mic for the guitar, bass, and drum overheads, then a shure sm 57 on the bass drum, then the bigger one for the vocals. I don't really do much mixing other than adjusting the volume for each track. I'm unable to adjust the snare or bass drum or overheads individually because I don't have enough tracks. The drum sound is one mono track.

almost, semi-related.
I wish I had a computer app that was simple as this, and less complicated than something like FL Studio.

I believe "porta" in this case stands for portamento. Think of it like playing guitar, but only using slides. It can often be adjusted for speed, for a slow slide or a fast one.

Fruity Loops is about as simple as it gets my friend, it's kiddie software.

Steve- Keep rocking.
Other guy who's myspace I clicked on below steve's- keep rocking, better recording.

So I've heard. I guess what I'd be looking for is less of a digital music workstation, and more of...sequencing utility or like, toy. Basically, the simplicity of this KORG DS app, but on the computer. Sigh. I'll give Ableton another shot, that seems to be like the OS X equivalent of Fruity Loops.

Presenting "Surely, Shirley" by my/Sheer's band, Midnight Down. Check it out, feedback is appreciated. We're aware of sound production/mixing levels issues (and the fact that the drums are, well, a drum machine) that we'll be addressing later, btw, just so you know, lol. :shred:

If you happen to like it enough, you can download the mp3 here (sounds better imo than the file on Soundcloud, which ended up sounding compressed, unsurprisingly):

- The lyrics are kinda flat, cliché and repetitive.
- The thirst three sentences were hard to hear what you were actually singing. (for me that is, of course)

+ Great improvement of your voice Mare(?) (comparing with the Tonight cover)
+ Solid guitar work, nothing really amazing, but it works.

( :twisted:this could be an open invitation to criticize Sheer,
btw I assume Shirly is referring to Sheer)

They're supposed to be cliche, it's a powerpop song. :D The chorus can definitely be repetitive though, I think it might be a "sounds cool and catchy" or "ugh too many fucken shirleys" thing, lol.

Mixing/recording quality issue, see above, lol. I'm pretty sure we're going to re-record anything we do now with much better quality in the Fall.

Thank you sir, though I can only give reverb any credit there. My vox are actually subpar on this, imo, but we'll work on improving recording quality later on.

Sheer's a good guitarist, I think his parts are among my favorite aspects of the song. He's written far more impressive lines, but like you said, this works, I think it really fits the style of the song well.

Thanks a ton for the feedback. :)
