Interesting. I felt that SGBB and Num Heavymetallic were the easiest to get into due to how hooky they were. SGBB is easy because it's very poppy. SGDA was the hardest for me because of the production and the abrasiveness of many of the songs - or that there aren't many clear lead guitar lines.

SGDA was the hardest for me to get into. It wasn't until my ear learned to filter the sound and discern all the guitar work going on that I learned to love it's muddy, distorted, crazy production. Sappukei and NHM were the easiest for their awesome production, and awesome Eastern influence-infused punk/dub/hardcore/ksdjkjdksjskj. SGBB has a ton of great guitar work going on, with novice production values. I had to get used to that as well.

SGDA is my favorite Number Girl album. Not really saying much though because I like every album of them pretty much the same. SGDA feature my favorite songwriting and producing though. I think it captures the band's essence the most, imo. I actually physically bought the album, and I haven't ever bought a pillows album lol.

SGBB is really hooky for sure, but the super-lo-fi recording can turn people off before they notice the hooks, especially on the vocal end.

That's why I think the live versions on Shibuya Rocktransformed make a better intro to the band.

Interestingly, Rolling Stone Japan picked that one as their best album on their top 100 Japanese rock'n'roll albums list, so you may be onto something there.

He's an entire set of them playing in Chicago. The audio is quite shit, but it's still cool to see them playing in front of an all American crowd.

edit: Rofl, the video quality is almost equally as bad. Inazawa pretty much says, "Video compression? FUCK OFF!" throughout the entire video. "Next song called 'Samurai'. Drums: Video Artifacts."

Good find. Number Girl broke up exactly ten years ago from today.

RIP.

When I saw Zazen Boys back in May, during sound-check, Mukai played a little bit of Zegen vs Undercover on guitar. Practically shat.

RIP. I've been taking a break from NG and ZB lately. When I go driving later, I'll play some.

I forgot just how much Tabuchi really rocks out. I will always consider her tone to be the holy grail of tones. She can do magical things with a guitar.

Best moment for me was hearing Toumei Shoujo on the pre-show playlist in the venue. All of those Japanese kids were like "Fuck yeah! Also, those two guys rocking out are total dorks!  " as Lostman and I air-guitared and visceraled the shit out of that moment. "KIDZUIII-TA-RA" ::DAN DAN DAN DAN DAN DAN DAN:: "OOOORE WA~~" ::DAN DAN DAN DAN DAN DAN:: at 0:40.

Are there any live videos of Tombo floating around out there? I'd love to listen to a live recording of that shit.
