Will be neat to see how these turn out. Mineta may be a bit crazy, but he also tends to be a bit of a great musician.

Yeah, he's definitely one of the most reliably consistent songwriters in Japanese rock at the moment. Just wish he was more prolific, although I can't complain about a (projected) total of 7 songs across 2016 and 2017, a fair proportion of which are probably going to be quite lengthy.

hmmm looks like the band's doing a "new arrangement" of Enjou Kousai now. hope some video of it comes up soon. maybe we'll get a clip in this year's Rising Sun Rock Festival digest?

also psyched that Mineta's playing Rickenbackers again, and a 330 no less! (same model as me ) was hoping he hadn't made a permanent switch to Fender.

glad to hear you dig it! sounds like a poppier version of "boys on the run" imo; the drumming especially reminds me of "boys". thanks to the production, goto got a great drum sound, and his performance is awesome too. glad the band is stickin with the production style and noise tendencies of the [i]hikari[/i] album.

brief speculation on what the third single will be: ummm could be the new version of "dont trust over thirty" (which is now called "adult annihilation"; awesome title)...but mineta might stick that on the b-side, considering that's what he did with the new version of "enjou kousai". i doubt the next A-side will be "yuyami wo korose" or "nande kono suki nanda ro", just cuz neither sound like A-side material (i could be wrong). sooo my best bet would be that mineta's got something entirely new up his sleeve for the next single, although i'm sure one of the tracks i just mentioned (probably "adult annihilation") will be the b-side. [b]EDIT:[/b] just realised the single could also have a new version of "youji to tsuki no hime" or "kayou" on it, but that's no super likely since the band hasn't played them live this year

Less than a week 'til "Angel Baby" is out officially! Got both the standard edition and limited edition on pre-order (GNB are the only band I've ever done this for), but gonna grab the digital too cuz I can't wait 'til Friday for it to come in the mail and I'm fairly sure it'll be going up on Ototoy on release day.

EDIT: Ototoy didn't have it! Hopefully my CD gets in on Friday, then.

It's release day! I was up 'til midnight JST last night waiting for the single to appear on Ototoy, but when all the new releases went up, "Angel Baby" wasn't there! Thankfully, I woke up the next day and saw on Instagram that somebody had grabbed the single off iTunes, and sure enough it was there (and available in my region's iTunes Store, too!).

okay, last single in the 銀杏BOYZ trilogy was announced today. it's called 恋は永遠, out Sep 27. looks like a completely new song, so i guessed right! the band played it a couple days ago at Reborn-Art Festival. the B-side is a cover of a CreepHyp song, which will probably be cool but i'm a bit let down that the B-side is a cover rather than another new song or even a remake. especially would have liked to hear the new version of "Don't Trust Over Thirty"; really really really hope Mineta releases it eventually, maybe for the next album. [url]https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=1645216128854079&id=271679312874441[/url] this version is kinda rlly different to any other version we've heard previously. honestly would have preferred if they recorded the full band version that they were playin last year instead; it was more rock-oriented whereas this one is more pop. in fact it seems like GNB is rlly a pop band now; i know the [i]hikari[/i] album was rlly pop-oriented and pop has always been part of their style but they had always been less...inoffensive; even the [i]hikari[/i] album was somewhat subversive despite bein all synthpop and whatnot. i thought after hearing "ikitai" that GNB would keep bein subversive but with these 2017 singles im startin to think that GNB might now just be like your average big japanese rock band. not that that's bad, but im worried that everything they do from here on out may just pale in comparison to their older work for me.

as with every release day, I was up 'til 1am waiting for JST to turn over into midnight. the single actually became available in Australia on iTunes, Apple Music and Spotify at midnight in Australian time, but i think you can only listen to/buy the A-side from those platforms if you're outside of Japan. no problem, as I bought the single off good old reliable Ototoy as soon as midnight JST rolled around.

"Hone" is great as i've already said, but at first i really wasn't feeling the remake of "Enjou Kousai". it's sorta hilarious on first listen; it's like the old version but "PoAdamu"-ified. it finally clicked this morning while i was walkin to class, and now i rlly love it. Mineta did a good job of reshaping the hook, and the whole thing is just danceable and energetic as hell.

if anyone happens to be in Japan, be sure to head instore ASAP for a CD copy of the "Hone" single. mine have just shipped from Amazon but you can pick up a flyer or a poster if you get the CD over the counter. pretty sure Diskunion is givin out large posters for free; dunno about other places but i think Tower and Coconuts Disk have the smaller flyers.
