Tame Impala at Radio City for me on Tuesday, am beyond pumped. Saw them last year and it was great, super psyched to see what they've done as far as light show this tour, and with the new songs, it'll no doubt be much more funky, which I have mixed feelings about

I need to call my fam in Allentown to see what's up, but if that doesn't shape up, I think it's still doable without their lodging, it would just eat a lot of my pay. I would have to stay overnight in the city because megabus doesn't have a return until the next morning.

If you're looking to be a cheapskate about it and are the kind capable of sleeping a bit on the bus, you can always stay up overnight and just hang around in Philly's main train station waiting area. I did that after a Ted Leo concert back in college one time, lol.

Tame Impala last week was epic. They've really become a great live band, and their light show is amazing, it really enhances the music. I was taken to another plane at times, if I had ingested some mind altering chemicals beforehand I for sure would have felt like I was floating through time and space.

I also got to meet Kevin and Jay afterwards which was cool, they signed my poster and it was an amazing night!

They also had Bakuretsu Tricot San and THE on vinyl, but I already had them on itunes and wasn't sure if I'd need the money later (I did).

How was it?!

Totally insane, they are cyborgs, they took like, one brief pause to tune and talk to the crowd and that was it. All systems go. How the heck does the lead guitarist run in place and dance around so much and not sound like she's missing anything?! I'd say there were definitely tricot fans in attendance up front, but the bar crowd seemed hooked pretty much immediately. After Anamein, which I think was the third or fourth song, this one guy screamed out HOLY SHIT! They played pretty much everything that had a video except for The Dreaming Girl, Flying High, Into The Sky, maybe they are saving that one for somewhere else. G.N.S. was the encore, and they had AND album songs sprinkled in.

I sang the "oh ah oh's" in Anamein, I sang as much of Bakuretsu Panie San as I could (not the breakdown, lol) but I timed the "baka ja nai?" response in it, and a girl to my right did the "kimi wa itta". One of the cymbals kept getting stuck early in the set, but after three or four times the stagehand got it stabilized. I know they were using the previous band's kit because it said Marietta on it, but I'm not sure if they used their own cymbals or Marietta's. The crowd was hot from song two onwards. I don't recall what the first song was, everything else I recognized. They also played that Samba song and did the whistle + maracas break in the middle! That was completely nuts and the crowd was really doing some dancing and bouncing off of each other. A girl next to me lost her phone to the floor and it got smashed, but she recovered very quickly to a stance of, ah well, fuck it, tricot's rocking my face off right now. This one guy crowd surfed like three or four times, and near the end Ikumi did some crowd surfing of her own. I got a hand on her back! I could see on their faces when the set finished, they were glowing, especially Motoko. Ikumi said she was so happy with how we were responding the whole night, and twice she said "We will come back!" I hope the whole tour responds so well.

Opener was a pretty sick duo The Joint Chiefs of Math, I wish they had a longer set because I liked them better than the second band, Marietta, but oh well. I went to the bathroom to recuperate during their last three songs. I went to the merch table well before the show started because I knew that shit was going to be on fire when the show was over. I bounced outta there immediately and I didn't bring any kind of device so no photos or autographs/meet and greet. I fucked up the trip planning pretty hard (and I'd rather not share the details) so I wasn't comfortable with staying there any longer than necessary.

Cool write-up, you made me almost wish I was going to see Tricot (I can't, have to go see Matt Pond PA on the same date that Tricot is scheduled to play LA, as his band is doing their final tour and he's one of my absolute favorites).

Next shows are two nights of Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls, next Thursday and Saturday. Then it's Matt Pond on the 29th, and then I have no clue when we'll be seeing anything else for a bit.

Also, I met a tricot fan at the 30th street station the next morning. I walked by the stall Beck's Cajun Cafe twice while trying to decide what to eat, and he noticed I was wearing a tricot shirt. I told him they just played here last night and he seemed really proud that Philly got the first stop. He also mentioned MotFD. I told him that he made a sale and ordered a fried shrimp platter with black bean salad. I showed them the school children vinyl after I finished and went on my way. I don't think I caught his name, unfortunately. There was a guy I met before the show started named Eric, he was like 6'6" and skinny with a perm, we were talking about Mario Maker and making music with games when he brought up that his best friend is brother to one of the guys from Anamanaguchi (or was it brother was best friend to guy from Ana...?) lol. There was also some yuppie looking 20 something trying to strike up conversation with one of the tricot tour staff "So I'm planning on going to Japan very soon, my friend has blah blah schmooze". I don't know how much the dude was trying to get out of that conversation.

Maybe I'll see Black Sabbath for their last tour next year, not really much of a concert goer unless it's a band I really wanna see. I say maybe cause it depends whether or not [url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3b6SGoN6dA]Bill Ward[/url] is drumming. Plus the closest place is Colorado.

It looks like they're still together. But still glad I finally got to see them, since yeah, they don't tour much. The festival I saw them at (Big Guava) actually wasn't too outrageous, my ticket was $85 for the one day. I've paid more for a non-festival show. >.>

Saw Weird Al recently (second time for me), another great show. The opening was pretty awesome- it was Tacky, and similar to the music video, they showed him streamed live to a screen above the stage while he was singing/dancing through the halls backstage, and then he walked in and onto the stage from a side door.

I really do need to see Weird Al at least once!

The last show I went to was Nachito Herrera, who never fails to impress. He's a master of Latin Jazz, and plays here with some frequency (since he lives here). I like it--it's really special.

I might go see the local space-rock band Manplanet who are coming together again for a show in a couple of weeks.
