Gotta disagree with Mare and totally agree with Kyle on this one. It's a little grating at first the way the vocals fit with the music, but the part where the whole band comes together (juxtaposed with the crashing waves/girl with umbrella imagery in the video) is faptastic. And that organ is sex in musical form. If anything is wrong with this song, it's that it's just a bit too brief.

The production quality is surprisingly low, even/especially for Ging Nang, the vocals sound like crap compared to what Mineta is capable of, and the song just doesn't have nearly as much impact or catchiness as the original version. I'm gonna say that Mineta let me down this time, but if you like it that's cool, I just wish that I could say the same.

I don't hate it, but I was just hoping for something better.

I was disappointed at first, but I listened to the original a few times and gave the cover a few more listen-throughs and came to love the way they did it. I don't think there's one "good" way of producing; GNB obviously could record squeaky-clean rock if they wanted to (see: Baby Baby), but they intentionally make their production a certain way, and I think, though the balance in this recording is a little askew, the overall effect is N!

Well, that's what gets me. Usually when they aim for a type of sound quality, it sounds just right however they do it. See: juunanasai, toukyou, etc. This time, the vocals just sound out of place with the instruments to me for some reason, in addition to the song itself just not being as engaging as what I'm used to from them.

Fair enough. I'm not gonna say "if you don't like this song you're lying" (笑), but give it a few more listens. But, to be even more fair, let's keep in mind this IS a cover after all, and a straaaaaange one at that, so I'm not holding it up next to Toukyou or aidonwanadai. Maybe the single itself will sound a bit more balanced.

Nightrider was fucking amazing off of Hikari.

^Well duh, I said a thousand times that I like Night Rider way more than I like hikari, I was referencing the single track, not the b-side. ;D

I used to not like Hikari. Then I realized it's like Ningen, but way better. Much stronger melody, and I like the general emotion a lot more - it seems way more "honest" to me. I'll take it over just about any other GNB acoustic song (I'm not including Tokyo in this category.) Now, to apply some flame-retardant foam!

But incidentally Hikari is just about the only GNB song where I think they screwed up the production a bit. When it goes into rock mode, it suddenly sounds like they're playing in a bathroom stall. It doesn't sound as huge as it ought to, but that can easily be fixed by just cranking the volume a little bit.

I still say Hikari is great.

I think I like hikari more than I like ningen but less than I love tokyo.
